Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danessa Pedroso. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Danessa , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Navigating through my first year in the creative business has been quite the journey – a mix of highs and lows in the ever-fluctuating realm of income. Making it a full-time gig has been a challenge, but hey, not an insurmountable one.
This year has been all about putting myself out there, making connections, and getting my name on the map. It’s been a learning curve, filled with experiments to figure out what clicks and what doesn’t in this creative space.
Trial and error has been my teacher, and every win or stumble has been a lesson that inches me closer to my goals. I’ve learned that being organized is like having a secret weapon. It keeps me on top of things, ready to face whatever curveballs this entrepreneurial journey throws my way.
Fear? That’s something I’ve shown the door. Embracing the unknown, pushing my own limits – that’s been the name of the game. Experience has taught me that being prepared and knowing my worth are the shields that keep others from taking advantage of what I bring to the table.
Looking back on this rollercoaster of a year, I see the importance of recognizing my own value. It’s an ongoing process of self-discovery and fine-tuning, but understanding the worth of my creative ventures has given me the backbone to stand firm in negotiations and resist the pull of undervaluation.
As I carry these lessons forward, I’m optimistic that the path to a sustainable full-time income will get smoother. After all, every stumble is just a step toward a more resilient and rewarding future.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey, I’m Danessa Pedroso, an Afro-Latina artist born in Cuba and currently living in Hartford, CT. Art has been my passion forever, but the real love began during my university days at the University of Hartford. That’s where I stumbled upon ceramics, and it changed my life.
Beyond ceramics, I’m a bit of a materials explorer. I work with plants, wood, textiles, and wire. Oh, and I’ve got a thing for crafting jewelry, especially with my beloved ceramic clay beads – each piece tells a unique story.
When I’m not lost in my creative world, I’m bringing others along for the ride through ceramics workshops. Whether it’s a quick one-day dive or a more extended 3-week journey, I’m all about sharing the creative love. And, of course, my creations don’t just stay in the studio. Functional ceramics, plant arrangements, and sculptural pieces find their way into the world, making everyday life beautiful.
my mission. It’s not just about the art; it’s about telling the world that everyone has their unique creative spark. I’m on a mission to shatter the illusion that holds people back – the one that says you need to dim your light for the comfort of others or because of some lurking fear. It’s a lie, and I’m here to call it out.
In my book, society’s opinions are like background noise – barely a whisper compared to the powerful voice inside you. I’m proud to be the voice saying, “Hey, you’ve got something special, and the world needs to see it.”
Break free from the molds, and let’s create a world where authenticity and creativity shine brighter than anything else. Your light matters, my friend, and I’m here to make sure it shines brilliantly.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Teaching seeing someone become ligth up when they finally understand a particular process I am teaching. The happiness that brings me its unmatched.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I just started creating videos that feel true to me, and I wanted to begin. I think fear held me back for a long time, and I was tired of being tired. I wanted to express myself, but I was fearful because of people’s opinions around me until I didn’t care anymore. My advice is to just start; you never know where it can lead you.
