Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daneilo Reid. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daneilo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
Before i got into acting i was of the perception that one would have to go to the edna manley college of the visual and performing arts and as i did not come from a financially blessed family background my dream seemed unreachable at the time, so knowing what I know now I would put alot of focus and effort into networking and keeping a close ear to the ground for casting calls.
Daneilo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
How I got into acting is I came across a social media ad, which was basically a casting call for a live production called “Chixta” by David Denton I attended the auditions and was selected from a number of candidates, however i did not get any stage time as i later found out that the role i auditioned for was an understudy for the actor who was playing the actual role, I was still appreciative of the exposure I got to what goes on behind the curtains but I also I was looking at the bigger picture: I had found out where the entry point was to the industry of acting for a person like me who had no formal training
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to create an avenue for individuals who were just like me who had the dream but did have the know how to get to the stage
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When the pandemic hit I was at the peak of my acting career traveling from country to country performing but it all came to a halt, and as such I was forced to resort to a 9-5 job as a call center representative
