We were lucky to catch up with Daneff Davila Ross recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Daneff thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I remember having finished my masters in Spain and returning to Venezuela to open my own practice, working at a family center with adults. I played the typical psychotherapist sterotyped role, since i was taught tat was the must professional way to work. In mind i was trying to make myself be reliable for my clients and also trying to prove myself y was capable of handling such a key role, but honestly i always felt trapped in such a stif role. After a while i found out my clients would simply overcome their challenges and just leave, or come back in a while. I noticed it was key in therapy for clients to realize their possibilities and own purpose in order to manifest the person they’ve discovered while overcoming those personal challenges.
I moved to USA, had the opportunity to become a Coach and it just added a new ingredient to my practise i was missing; to encourage clients to create their own life plans. This happened while i was actually reinventing my own life plan as an immigrant, discovering possibilities within myself. I created a program based on exploring possibilities on person’s life story from a therapeutic perspective, this focused on life project designing, bussiness planning and creative iniciatives to manifest. Today i’m a Coach & Therapist for Creatives or simply people looking to consciously transform their lives into new possibilities.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I actually have always been connected with personal growth, spend my time researching and knowing people’s habits and social changes, doing networking everywhere and that’s has helped me get into the local business, finding opportunities to show my perspective on mental health, creativity and self growth.
I do 1:1 therapy sessions, I’ve got a 4 session coaching for creatives program focused on working personal challenges when it comes to creating a new life project, business idea or startup iniciatives. My main target is in spanish but i’m focusing on growing my english speaking community. I’m currently designing a program to do monthly gatherings in south florida for creative women, including guest interviews, open conversations, networking and workshop activities.
My goal is to support others on opening their perspective on change, developing ideas, manifesting creative proposals and overcome personal challenges when it comes to growing personal and professionally. I focus on embracing how creative we can be by nature when it comes to growing.
I’m actually proud of having overcome the stereotypes of my carreer. Of having allowed myself to create my own coaching proposal and to express my natural creativity in favor of myself and others. My brand in english means Creative Genius, which means i’m someone that can actually encourage others to manifest their wishes and make them true by creating it. It’s a matter of exploring what others actually are capable of manifesting by being concious of their own life path, resoruces, values and possibilities.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When the pandemic started i was working at a restaurant and having coaching clients at the same time in two different sides of the city. Clients stopped their programs and the restaurant went only for deliveries. We kept getting paid minimum wedge plus tips, but there weren’t much tips since there were no more table to serve. I remember trying to negotiate with the owner to pay us a bit more to try to cope with the situation, he offered us food instead. One day i ate an empanada during my shift and at the closing i found out my cash tips didn’t even make it to pay for the empanada, so i voided the receipt and left home. Next day the manager called me to tell me the owner had asked for the empanada paid receipt and since i hadn’t pay for it my hours DURING PANDEMIC were going to be reduced. That same day i apologized to the owner via text and my coaching brand started. I spent all quarantine time working on it, studying, designing and doing networking and interviews to creatives coping through pandemic with their ideas and projects, all online. I migrated my program online and my company grew to what it is today, Genia Creativa is a company supporting creatives in their thoughest times. I called this story ” The empanada that saved me” since it encouraged my purpose to be manifested and my actions to truly act.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
AUTHENTICITY and PERSEVERANCE. When you show up on your market constantly, showing what you know best and who you really are no matter the challenge or what the media expects, you gain respect. It’s a matter of being consistant, of dedicating the time to prove your point, to make yourself be understood and respected as someone offering a particular and strong solution that endures, which is based on a real background that supports this offer. This way you prove what you do is authentic, legit, real and valuable.
