After 8 years in fine dining, I bet on myself, launching a Catering/Private Chef venture. The site thumbtack gave me my first unexpected paycheck. It connected me to a Valentine’s Day gig. Nerves aside, I relied on my skills and charisma, crafting a memorable experience from course 1 to 3. Today, those clients-turned-friends remain loyal supporters, bringing me new opportunities.
D’Andre, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The kitchen discovered me is what I like to say. My future was as hazy as my career options: photographer or boxer. Culinary school ended up winning I graduated and after I searched for who chef Dre would be leading to stints in top-notch restaurants, instilling discipline crucial for my current venture. Now, I tackle daily challenges for athlete clients, tailoring diets for peak performance. What sets me apart? Charisma. Beyond crafting 5-star meals, I create unforgettable experiences. From humble beginnings, my business has soared. To those following or contemplating hiring me, know your satisfaction is my obsession—Good food & Good vibes, always.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020, during the challenging times of the pandemic, my business took a hit due to the global shutdown. Faced with financial strain, I found myself in a delivery driver role for an unnamed company, suggested by a family friend. Despite excelling in the position for a year, it was undeniably the toughest job I’d ever undertaken. This experience reinforced my passion for cooking, motivating me to strive even harder for success in my true love: the culinary world.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The key to building my reputation as a private chef has been a blend of culinary excellence, personalized service, and unwavering commitment to client satisfaction. By consistently delivering exceptional dining experiences, adapting to diverse preferences, and going above and beyond expectations, I’ve earned trust and positive word-of-mouth referrals. Additionally, staying connected through social media, showcasing my creations, and responding to client feedback has played a pivotal role in establishing and enhancing my presence within the market.
