We recently connected with Danasha Edgington and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Danasha, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
First and foremost I learned to model professionally by taking the time to learn the craft. Being a model doesn’t always come naturally so you have to practice to part to definitely look the part. I would say it is a continuous craft that you will have to learn over time. Modeling is something you can always get better at there is not just a stopping point. The skills that I believe that are the most essential are confidence and attitude. I say this because when you have that strong confidence and attitude when you’re modeling it shows and that is what catches other’s eyes. The only obstacle that is standing in your way is yourself, it is always you versus you. You challenge yourself to become better and you will!

Danasha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello Columbus!
My name is Danasha Edgington. I am a professional model here in Columbus, Ohio. I have been modeling for 6 years now and it all started from when I was in grade school just a small child. My parents allowed me to compete in competitions for pageants at a very young age and I loved every second of it. I then found that love in modeling as I have gotten older and continued to follow that dream when I was in high school. What I would say I am the most proud of since I started my modeling career are being apart of fashion shows. Being able to be around that atmosphere when I get to know the designers personally and the models makes me really feel whole. Allowing me to display their incredible designs that they’ve created into garments are always my favorite things to witness and be apart of. Especially having the honor of physically wearing them as well to display upon the runway.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When it came to social media it was more so a visual diary that I kept sharing amongst people that I had no clue that was watching what I’d be creating. Social media was always for fun in the back on my mind and it still is to this day. The first app that I used for my selfies and travel photos was Facebook. It was the most common and it was fairly simple and easy to use. Then I discovered Instagram, When I started instagram back in 2014-2015 I had about maybe 200 followers or maybe even lower because it was something new and I thought to myself “let’s try this”. Slowly over time I started to gain recognition for my modeling portraits that I was creating with local photographers around the city of Columbus. I remember in high school I gained so much many more followers that took me up to a total of 2,500 and I thought to myself “well where did these people come from ?”. That’s when I started to take my modeling seriously and since high school and all through my college years I have gained a lot of recognition from the city of Columbus just by modeling with many different photographers, walking in fashion shows and going to a lot of events. Now I have support of 4,600 followers on Instagram and I couldn’t thank everyone enough that has been there for me every step of the way!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a professional model is getting the opportunity of meeting new people. I know it sounds cliche but I have met some of the most amazing men and women in the fashion modeling industry. Some of these people will be forever friends and not only friends but designers. They’re so welcoming and so sweet. I wouldn’t trade meeting new individuals every single fashion show I am apart of if photoshoots. I am forever grateful for the opportunity. I would also like to say being able to help the designers bring their ideas to life. Actually displaying their garments and making their own designs is always something I will never get over because it amazes me every single time to see the talent that is here in the city of Columbus.
