We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dan Warner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dan below.
Dan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
After many odd jobs, and what was seemingly no sense of direction, they sat me down, and finally asked me what I wanted to do for a living. I was afraid to tell them that I wanted to be a comedian and an actor, but I figured, what the hell, they’re probably going to yell at me anyway, so it doesn’t really matter, and so I just told them. And my father looked at me and to my complete shock said the kindest thing any father could ever say… He said “well if that’s what you wanna do, what are you doing about it?“ I didn’t know what to say, and told him I didn’t know, and he told me I better get off my ass and make a plan if that’s what I really want to do. They were completely and totally supportive of my dreams of becoming an actor and comedian, and supported me in every way. I got pretty goddamn lucky.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my acting career in the year 2000 after doing stand-up comedy for over 7 years, then landed my first commercial. Over the past 23 years I’ve been working steady as an actor and have amassed a pretty good resume. To I’ve been in over 80 network television shows and films, and currently have several recurring roles in streaming shows, including a recurring role on the show “For all mankind” where I play General Artur Weber. And with over a dozen films, one of which was screened a few years at the Cannes Film Festival, where I was 3rd lead in the film playing opposite Gerard Depardieu, and over 100 TV commercials, I stay quite busy.
I’ve also built a website to help flatten the learning curve for actors at any stage in their career. I have taken my 23 years’ experience as a working actor and poured it all into this website. You won’t find sections on “living your best life” or “Mindset meditations” or anything that doesn’t pertain to Acting. It’s all about workshops and tutorials that will help you become a working actor. We cut to the chase!
I think what sets me apart from other programs or coaches is the fact that I’m in the trenches doing it still! The things I teach and the tips I give out are from practical experience that is battle tested and proven to work. It’s not “my opinion or conjecture” it’s what’s happening now. I see a lot of programs similar to mine with the teachers or coaches who haven’t booked work in years and certainly haven’t done it off of a self-tape which is how it’s being done right now.
To start, there’s over 50 video workshops covering everything from what is a slate and what is a self-tape, to advanced self-tape techniques, to how to put together your demo reel to how to book more work, and everything in-between. We cover it all!
Best of all, I hold a weekly Zoom coaching and Q&A session for all of my members. There I answer all their questions and we have a self-tape exercise that everyone can do to get better at booking jobs. Every Week!
So I say, if you need to move forward with your dream of becoming an actor, or advance your stalled acting career, this is the place to go. It really is a roadmap to becoming a working actor, especially in the new age of Self-Tape Auditions, and I walk actors through the whole thing. One of the best parts is, it doesn’t matter where you live, and you can go at your own pace. However the more you work at it, the faster you’ll get there.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wished there was YouTube when I started! It really has a wealth of information and can speed up the process of trial and error. You do have to watch who you listen to however, because there is some wrong and bad information out there. I ALWAYS go to IMDb and check out any actors or “coaches” who claim to know. My feeling is, if they don’t have at least 10 years experience and have booked 50 or more “legitimate” jobs. (not just short films) then their information might not be so good. My YouTube page currently has over 1 million views and I’ve posted over 400 free videos for actors.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Obviously booking a job is incredibly rewarding, but on the coaching side, whenever any actor that I’ve coached tells me, “oh you said something one time and I remembered that, and used it in my audition and got a callback, or booked the job” THAT is what it’s all about. It really is a win for me too. I love helping actors.
