We were lucky to catch up with Dan Silverman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dan, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
With more usage of online dating services, we are seeing more online dating fatigue. The common consensus from our clients is that they all hate online dating. Most people start with that before they come to us. When we show we can do do that part for them, they are more than willing to sign up so they don’t have to swipe anymore.

Dan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a locally based matchmaker and dating coach. I help clients find success in their love lives. I’m a lot like a modern day hitch, where I find people matches or teach them how to meet people on their own.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Never compete on price with a high end service like matchmaking. Matchmaking is considered a luxury service. Being one of the more expensive options makes you seem like the one who will bring the best, high quality service. Just make sure you truly are the highest quality service. The less you charge, the higher maintenance the clients typically are as well.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pandemic forced me to change my business model. Social events stopped altogether for quite a long time and I could no longer scout at in person events for singles, nor could I coach people in person. This forced me to do a lot of searching for matches on online dating sites and social media, which proved to be quite efficient since everyone was now on these sites. I also started offering zoom coaching since I no longer coached in person. This turned out to be a great thing because I was able to work for clients all around the world instead of just Miami.
