We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dan Razumovsky. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dan below.
Hi Dan, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Pioneering a Greener Future in the Concrete Industry
The concrete industry, while indispensable to modern construction, has long been recognized as one of the least sustainable sectors. With its significant dust emissions and environmental footprint, the industry faces increasing scrutiny and stringent regulations from entities such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In response to these challenges, Aslan Concrete is spearheading a transformative approach by building the first truly green concrete plant in the United States. Partnering with Sun Catch, a Colorado-based leader in solar thermal technology, Aslan Concrete aims to set new standards for sustainability and efficiency within the industry.
Redefining Sustainability in Concrete Manufacturing
The vision for this green concrete plant goes beyond compliance. It seeks to disrupt industry norms by integrating innovative technologies and sustainable practices into every facet of its operations. Key among these innovations is the partnership with Sun Catch, a company renowned for manufacturing modular parabolic trough-concentrating solar collectors. These cutting-edge systems will play a pivotal role in revolutionizing energy usage at the plant.
The Sun Stainable system will provide thermal heat to support multiple operations. Hot water, generated using solar thermal technology, will be used to wash out concrete trucks after each run. This approach not only accelerates the cleaning process compared to cold water but also significantly reduces overall water consumption. Furthermore, this heated water will be repurposed to maintain optimal temperatures within the plant, preventing pipes from freezing during winter months and ensuring operational efficiency year-round.
Embracing Full-Cycle Sustainability
One of the most groundbreaking aspects of this initiative is the incorporation of solar-thermal desalination technology, currently under development by Sun Catch. This innovative system will be integrated into the plant’s washout process, enabling the recycling and purification of water used to clean concrete trucks and concrete production. When a truck returns from a delivery, the residual concrete is washed out with hot water, and the resulting slurry is collected in a washout tank. Using solar-thermal desalination, sediments will be removed, and the water will be cleaned and reused. This closed-loop system minimizes waste and exemplifies a commitment to full-cycle sustainability.
Leading the Charge for a Greener Industry
Aslan Concrete’s green concrete plant is not just a facility—it is a statement of intent. By combining cutting-edge solar thermal technology with sustainable operational practices, the plant aims to redefine what it means to be eco-friendly in an industry traditionally not associated with sustainability. The integration of systems like the Sun Stainable thermal collectors and the forthcoming solar-thermal desalination technology underscores a commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.
This initiative represents a bold step toward addressing the environmental challenges inherent in concrete manufacturing. By pioneering these sustainable practices, Aslan Concrete is not only setting a benchmark for green concrete production but also paving the way for a broader industry transformation. As regulations tighten and the demand for sustainable construction materials grows, projects like this will serve as blueprints for the future, demonstrating that environmental responsibility and industrial progress can go hand in hand.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
After moving to Colorado, I started my first company with the tools I had on hand. My very first job involved replacing carpet on a staircase, which I completed for $350.
In my first year of sales, I achieved $89,000 in revenue. By 2020, I shifted my focus to outdoor projects, including decks, roofs, and concrete, reaching $440,000 in sales that year. The momentum continued in 2021, with $840,000 in sales, and over four years, my total sales exceeded $2.5 million.
Throughout this journey, I prioritized sales and growth. One of my proudest accomplishments was closing a highly complex deck project—considered one of the most challenging in the county. The design impressed not only the plan reviewer and inspector but also every vendor involved in supplying the deck materials.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I started off as a handyman and did not know what I wanted to do. Then, after doing small and odd jobs, I started to pick up deck jobs. From there, customers would request concrete and roof additions. From there, I could niche down into offering only outdoor buildings. Concrete became a big seller.
With my experience with the construction and concrete, I was able to get this job in running the concrete plant on the manufacturing side.
