We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dan Milam a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dan, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path from a very young age. When I was seven years old, my mom signed my siblings and me up to be in a rendition of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I don’t remember much about the casting process, but we all got parts, and I was cast as Mustardseed. The directors were so awesome and collaborative and really allowed the cast to make the characters their own. It was in these weekly rehearsals that I saw actors making interesting choices and having a blast while doing it. Watching them in action made me realize that performing was not just something I loved but something I could actually do for a living.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an actor and artist based in Los Angeles. I got my start acting in the Washington, DC, theater circuit, which transitioned into playing guitar and singing in various DC-area pop punk and post-hardcore bands. I decided to dive deeply into acting in 2015 at the behest of a friend who is a writer and director. He and I had written a feature together and shot a short film, and he was convinced that acting was something I should pursue. I knew he was right because I had such an amazing time being on set and creating. So, I packed up my guitars and amp and moved to Los Angeles.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the endless journey of growth. To truly excel, an artist must not only listen to their inner voice but also attune themselves to the world around them. Art mirrors not only our own experiences but also the state of the world and our aspirations for its future. As an artist, you are continually absorbing and learning from the myriad happenings in the world, whether they occur in your local community or on the global stage. True artistry demands constant evolution, driven by both personal experience and a deep empathy for others.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by the ambition is to inspire through the creation of exceptional art while collaborating with the most extraordinary artists.
