We recently connected with Dan Garrity and have shared our conversation below.
Dan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful in our industry you not only have to provide high quality work but, also need to provide high quality customer service.
Customer service plays a huge role in building long-lasting relationships and loyalty. Providing a great customer experience can set you apart from your competitors and lead to repeat business, positive word-of-mouth, and strong reputation. It’s about not just meeting but exceeding expectations, making customers feel valued, and being responsive to their needs.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey there! I’m Dan “Gator” Garrity, and I’m the founder and owner of Gator’s Lawn and Landscape. First off, a special shoutout to my Grandpa Garrity—the original Gator!
Like so many others, the pandemic brought about unexpected challenges. For me, it came with a sudden job change. At the time, it felt like just another setback, but looking back, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It gave me the opportunity to be a stay-at-home dad to my two amazing kiddos, and more importantly, it gave me the chance to bring my dream of Gator’s Lawn and Landscape to life.
With over 10 years of experience in grounds management and lawn maintenance, I’m passionate about providing a service that people can trust. My previous work managing and maintaining million-dollar properties has equipped me with the skills and expertise to ensure that every lawn and landscape is handled with the utmost care, and that every client is satisfied. At Gator’s Lawn and Landscape, you can expect quality, consistency, and a personal touch—plus a little humor along the way!
What sets me apart is my emphasis on personal customer service, attention to detail, creative solutions and quick response times. I truly believe that success isn’t just about the end result, but also about the journey. That’s why I ensure clear communication, reliability, and a true partnership every step of the way.
What I want potential clients to know is that I’m not just here to do the job—I’m here to help you achieve your goals and build something lasting. Every project is an opportunity to make something meaningful, and I approach each with passion, expertise, and the desire to give you the best.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Facebook has been a huge asset for me! The platform’s ability to connect with such a large audience is hard to beat, especially for local businesses. It’s a great way to get the word out, share testimonials, post before-and-after photos of your work, and engage with potential clients directly. Plus, the local groups and community pages can really help spread the word about your services.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
You wouldn’t believe it, but everything kicked off with just a 32-inch Zero turn mower and my trusty Toyota Tacoma. Seriously, no trailer involved—I’d just drive up the ramps straight into the truck bed! Back in those early days, every single cent I earned had to get pumped right back into growing the business. I was super cautious about not splurging or letting things expand beyond what I could handle or store!
In my opinion, the initial years of launching your own company are crucial. It is important to know when and where to spend your money. attempting to purchase items that I knew would earn me back my money and more! Being successful on your own is the best feeling in the world!
