Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dan Frick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dan, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful is about keeping it going when you feel like you’re making no progress, overcoming your own idleness.
Being an independent artist in the music industry, things tend to move slowly and forward momentum sometimes can’t be seen immediately, but persistence is key. You have to set goals for yourself and keep at it until you meet those goals; be it booking live shows or festivals or writing a new record you always have to push to get to that next level.
When the band, Formula 400, started in 2019 we didn’t know if the music would be received well or not, but as luck would have it we instantly started gaining traction on streaming services and social media followers. Since then we’ve gone on to tour across the United States, playing multiple festivals and opening for some larger music groups. We look forward to what the future holds as we start recording our third album in early 2025
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started playing guitar when I was about 12 years old, after hearing such greats as David Gilmour, Randy Rhoads, Dimebag Darrell, and Jimi Hendrix. A lot of children don’t stick with an instrument when they are younger, but for me it stuck. Now almost 30 years later I’m still at it.
I think my band Formula 400 is unique because of the large amount of influences we draw from. Everything from classic rock to metal and everything in between, we’ve got something for everyone.
Our second release, Divination, ranked #2 on the the “doom charts” in 2023 and landed top 50 albums released that year. We hope to keep that momentum going with our next release in 2025
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Attitude and professionalism are the most important aspects of it. Showing support for other bands in the scene and maintaining quality in your musical releases.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We’ve been able to reach a wide audience with the use of social media. These days it’s necessary, especially as an independent music group, to keep fans informed about album releases and upcoming performances.
I don’t know that there’s a specific strategy to it, but constant communication and maintaining a presence keeps people interested in what you’re doing.
