Alright, Dan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

Growing up as an only child of parents that have been together for nearly 40 years – I had the benefit of varying levels of time and lessons from both my mom and dad. My mom grew up on a farm with 5 other brothers and siblings and instilled the importance of hard work and dedication early on. She spent nearly 20 years with the same employer, and I was fortunate enough to reap the benefit of a signed photo from Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca with the remaining rebel cast of Empire Strikes Back (Han, Luke and Leia) on her anniversary. My dad is an incredibly intelligent and creative engineer that has been self-employed in his later years as a handyman and has emphasized the importance of education and constantly re-inventing your life’s purpose to forge a path. They are now formally and semi-formally retired and I’m fortunate to be able to have the gift of more time with my parents in this new chapter of their lives.

Dan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m a software consultant that tries to focus on clients and products that ultimately provide life improvements to humanity, education, healthcare and certain financial services. In my spare time, I’m a self-proclaimed amateur homesteader and am about 2 years in to raising hens, fruits and vegetables with my wife.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Be curious – not judgmental. Our culture is a rich tapestry of unique backgrounds, opinions and beliefs – understanding how potential colleagues and clients think and react will help forge longstanding professional and personal relationships.
