We were lucky to catch up with Damon Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Damon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
From a very young age, I was drawn towards creative arts. It wasn’t a sudden realization but rather a gradual understanding that I had a unique ability to communicate and express myself through creativity. I recall moments from my early childhood when I would spend hours drawing, writing stories, or experimenting with different art forms. What fascinated me the most was how I could convey complex emotions, thoughts, and ideas through my creative endeavors. Whether drawing a comic book or sketching a landscape, I felt a profound sense of fulfillment and a strong connection with the people who would engage with my work.
As I grew older, this passion for creative expression only deepened. I found that the creative process was a powerful tool for connecting with others on a deeply emotional level. It allowed me to transcend language barriers and communicate in a universal way that touched people’s hearts and minds.
This realization that I could effectively communicate and connect with others through creativity became the driving force behind my decision to pursue a creative path in life.
Over the years, I’ve continued to nurture and refine my creative abilities, seeking opportunities to share my work with a broader audience. Throughout my journey, I have appreciated the joy of seeing how my creativity can inspire, inform, and bring people together.

Damon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into the art field has been an incredible adventure, filled with challenges and triumphs. I initially struggled to find my footing in the creative industry, but my passion for art and determination to make a mark ultimately led me to where I am today.
Breaking into the art field was difficult, and the journey was often fraught with self-doubt and setbacks. However, I’ve learned that persistence, authenticity, and a commitment to telling meaningful stories can open doors that were once closed. Today, I’m proud to be a multi-hyphenated artist who contributes to the creative landscape by blending various forms of art to create pieces that leave a lasting impact. It’s a voyage I’m immensely grateful for, and I’m excited to see where it leads next.
As a multi-hyphenated artist, I wear many hats, and that versatility has been both a necessity and a source of strength. What truly sets me apart is my passion for public art. These art forms give me a unique canvas to tell stories and connect with communities profoundly.
My life experiences have been instrumental in shaping my approach to storytelling through my art. I’ve always considered myself a creative problem solver and visual storyteller. Growing up in a diverse and vibrant community, I learned to appreciate the power of stories in bridging gaps and fostering unity. This perspective has deeply influenced my work, particularly regarding public art projects.
When I take on public art projects, I aim to tell a community’s story in a way that resonates with its residents. These are not only projects I see as artistic endeavors; they’re opportunities to capture the essence of a place, its history, culture, and people. My life experiences have taught me to approach these projects with empathy, listen to the community’s voices, and translate their stories into visual narratives that honor their heritage and aspirations.
One of the proudest moments in my career was seeing my first piece of public art come to life. It was a mural that told the story of a neighborhood’s journey from adversity to resilience. Seeing its impact on the community, how it sparked conversations, and the pride it instilled in the residents was immensely gratifying. It reinforced the belief that art has the power to beautify spaces and serve as a catalyst for positive change and community empowerment.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Having a mission gives me a sense of purpose, while the opportunity to explore the creative unknown keeps my work fresh and exciting. It’s like having a roadmap to a hidden treasure, but along the way, I stumble upon unexpected gems that I wouldn’t have found otherwise.
A clear goal or mission has been a game-changer in my creative journey. Like the North Star, it guides me through the vast and sometimes uncertain creative landscape. Setting a goal or mission becomes my driving force, a beacon of inspiration that keeps me motivated and focused.
This mission is a roadmap, defining the destination I aim to reach with my creative pursuits. It’s not just about setting ambitious targets; it’s about giving my creativity a purpose and direction. When you have a mission, you say, “This is where I want to go, and I’m determined to get there.”
However, the beauty of having a mission is in the journey itself. While I have a clear goal, I’m also open to the unexpected and the unexplored. Creativity thrives in ambiguity and spontaneity; having a mission doesn’t mean sticking to a rigid plan. It means using that mission as a catalyst to explore new avenues, experiment with different techniques, and dive into the creative unknown.
Some of my most significant breakthroughs came when I ventured off the planned path. During those moments, I’ve dared to blend different art forms, explore unconventional themes, or challenge my creative boundaries. These detours into the unknown have enriched my work and broadened my perspective as an artist.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is developing meaningful connections with your audience while enjoying the freedom to explore the limitless possibilities of the creative realm. It’s a ride filled with inspiration, self-expression, and the potential to leave a lasting impact on the world.
As an artist or creative, you establish a personal and external connection through your work. Creativity is a universal language that transcends boundaries, cultures, and backgrounds. When you create something, whether it be a painting, a piece of music, a story, or any form of artistic expression, you share a portion of your soul with the world.
The joy of knowing that your work can evoke emotions, provoke thoughts, or resonate deeply with someone else is incredibly fulfilling. It’s like sending ripples through the collective consciousness, touching hearts and minds in ways that words often cannot. Art inspires, consoles, challenges, and unites people. Creators have the privilege of being the catalyst for those experiences.
