We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Damon Bradley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Damon below.
Damon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk was opening up Shoptalk Podcast Studios with my partner Jason Johnson. We started the studio just to have a space to record. Where we recorded previously wasn’t doing the type of business we appreciated, and for the cost it just made sense for us to have our own space. Our first client came out of happenstance. A good friend wanted to record his podcast and we had equipment. It literally grew from there 7 years later business is still great, and continues to grow. No we’re looking for a stand alone location for 2024 and beyond
Damon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a product of Detroit. West side. Grew up middle class with two amazing parents and a younger sister. I had some background in radio and in 2016 my partner and i started Shoptalk Podcast. We owns and operate our own studio and have assisted over 200 podcast in producing and recording content. I’m grateful that we have created a space where people can collaborate and get their ideas out to the masses. The brand continues to grow and expand. Shoptalk has birthed two other highly successful podcast as well my solo podcast Dame After Dark and This Week in Culture. The future is bright.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Back in 2018 i went through some serious health challenges and almost passed away. I was able to recover and a year later lost my father. My faith in God, and having good people around me kept me alive. I learned first hand to take advantage of every day. Enjoy the moments. Make memories. Health and family is all you have. I thank God every day for my children. They are my everything and truly give me the strength to keep moving. They are my reason to live.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my business partner Jason back at Cass Tech high school. We weren’t necessarily friends cause i was a year older, but we knew a lot of the same people so I’d run into him a bit. Years later after we graduated we ended up working together. It was then we’d have these conversations that led to us starting the podcast. We’d talk about boxing, battle rap, sports, politics. We talked about having a show almost 3 years before we sat in front of a microphone. I had no clue what a podcast was, and i honestly thought i was doing a one time favor for a friend. But it’s turned into something bigger that i could have imagined.
