Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Damilola Felicia Badmus. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Damilola Felicia, thanks for joining us today. Can you share a story with us from back when you were an intern or apprentice? Maybe it’s a story that illustrates an important lesson you learned or maybe it’s a just a story that makes you laugh (or cry)? Looking back at internships and apprenticeships can be interesting, because there is so much variety in people’s experiences – and often those experiences inform our own leadership style.
When I think back to my early career, one of the most memorable experiences was my internship at an IT company. I joined the company just a few months after graduating from the university. What made it particularly interesting was that there were only two interns at that time, which gave us a unique opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities.
During my internship, I was exposed to different aspects of IT, from troubleshooting technical issues to assisting in software development projects. It was a challenging experience, and I must admit that there were moments when I didn’t enjoy it to the fullest. However, looking back, I realize that it was a crucial phase in my professional development.
One of the key lessons I learned from that internship was the importance of adaptability and versatility in the workplace. Being one of only two interns, I had to wear many hats and quickly switch between tasks. This taught me how to handle pressure, prioritize effectively, and develop a broad skill set.
Additionally, my time as an intern reinforced the significance of teamwork and collaboration. Despite the challenges, my colleague and I formed a strong bond and supported each other through the ups and downs of the internship. This experience highlighted the value of building positive working relationships and leveraging the strengths of a team.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media has been a journey filled with learning, experimentation, and dedication. Here’s the story:
When I first started on social media, particularly on platforms like LinkedIn, I didn’t have a massive following or a strong online presence. However, I had a passion for helping others and a genuine desire to share valuable insights. This passion was the driving force behind my journey.
1. Authenticity and Consistency: One of the key principles I followed was authenticity. I believe that people are drawn to genuine individuals who are not afraid to be themselves. So, I started by sharing my thoughts, experiences, and expertise authentically. I consistently posted content that reflected my values and my mission of empowering others on LinkedIn and other relevant platforms.
2. Content Creation: Content is the cornerstone of building an audience on social media. I invested time in creating content that provided value to my audience. This included articles, posts, videos, and podcasts related to personal branding, LinkedIn, and photography. By sharing knowledge and insights, I aimed to establish myself as a trusted source in these areas.
3. Engagement and Community Building: Building an audience isn’t just about followers; it’s about creating a community. I actively engaged with my audience by responding to comments, participating in discussions, and networking with like-minded individuals. This helped foster a sense of belonging and encouraged others to join the conversation.
4. Collaboration: Collaborating with others in my industry or niche was instrumental in expanding my reach. Whether through guest appearances on podcasts or audio events, co-authored articles, or joint webinars, collaborating with peers allowed me to tap into their audiences and vice versa.
5. In-Person Networking’s Impact: Attending in-person networking events was a game-changer. By connecting with people face-to-face, I forged authentic relationships. Many of these connections later discovered my work on LinkedIn, became fans, and turned into a loyal audience. This personal touch enhanced trust and engagement in my online community.
6. Learning and Adaptation: Social media is constantly evolving, so it’s important to stay informed about the latest trends and best practices. I continuously learned from successful social media influencers, attended webinars, and adapted my strategies accordingly.
For those just starting to build their social media presence, here’s some advice:
1. Identify Your Niche: Determine your area of expertise or passion and focus on a specific niche. This will help you target the right audience.
2. Consistency is Key: Regularly post quality content. Consistency builds trust and keeps your audience engaged.
3. Engage and Interact: Don’t just post and forget. Engage with your audience by responding to comments, asking questions, and participating in discussions.
4. Be Authentic: Be yourself and share your unique perspective. Authenticity resonates with people.
5. Leverage Visuals: Visual content like images and videos often perform well on social media. Use them to enhance your posts.
6. Network and Collaborate: Connect with others in your industry and consider collaborations to expand your reach.
7. Measure and Adapt: Use analytics tools to track your progress and adjust your strategies based on what works best for your audience.
Remember that building a social media presence takes time and patience. Stay committed to your goals, keep learning, and adapt as you go along. Over time, you’ll see your audience grow, and your influence will expand.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of personal branding, content marketing, and word-of-mouth referrals.
For example, by consistently showcasing my expertise, authenticity, and values on social media platforms like LinkedIn, I’ve been able to establish myself as a trusted authority in my field. This has not only attracted clients directly but has also led to opportunities for speaking engagements, collaborations, and media features, all of which further boost my visibility and credibility.
Content marketing also plays a pivotal role in showcasing my expertise and providing value to potential clients. Through blog posts, articles, videos, and podcasts, I share insights that resonate with my target audience. and over time, this has drawn potential clients who appreciate the expertise demonstrated in my content.
Lastly engaging with like-minded professionals, attending events, and participating in online communities has allowed me to connect with potential clients and collaborators. My word-of-mouth referrals often stem from these relationships, as satisfied clients recommend my services to their networks.
