We recently connected with Damian White and have shared our conversation below.
Damian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
Much of the insecurity brooding inside of artists stems from a lack of access to value-rich networks and opportunities. I’ve always believed in my writing and known that eventually I’d attract likeminded people who care deeply about their respective craft as well. Recently, I’ve joined the Liberty Music PR family and have experienced that very level of support. It has been validating to hear industry insiders share feedback on my music, offer credible perspectives, and push my specific goals forward. I intentionally surround myself with people capable of zooming out and exploring all possibilities.

Damian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am hip-hop recording artist and writer hailing from Columbus, Ohio. My journey as an artist has been profoundly influenced by personal experiences, including two challenging episodes of homelessness. These hardships served as a driving force behind my creative pursuits and led to finding solace and expression through music and poetry. My debut poetry book, I Made A Place For You, stands as a testament to the healing power of art and its ability to mend a fractured identity. For me, the goal is to tell my story of not yielding to the insecurities that accompany hardships in life in a way that leaves listeners feeling empowered.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Transforming an idea that started off as a fleeting morning thought into a full body of work is an addictive process, and I find to be the most rewarding part of being an artist. Where the ideas flow, I go. No other aspect of my life allows me to embody that “reach out and feel no walls” mentality so it’s special each time something new is created.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
“The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield is the most recent book I’ve finished up, and I would recommend it to any artist looking to anchor themselves more deeply in their creative identity.
