We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dameion Robinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dameion below.
Dameion, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
It all started in the early 80’s in the Houston, Texas neighborhood of 5th Ward. I was introduced to several genres of music by my parents and my uncle mostly. But, the moment I heard “Hard Times” by Run-DMC, Hip-Hop was starting to look like my go-to genre. By 1988, Hip-Hop had me in a bear hug and Stetsasonic’s “Sally” and Public Enemy’s “Night of the Living Baseheads” was on repeat in my head as well as the cassette player. From there my love for Hip-Hop has grown into a business as far as creating my own music in addition to celebrating the legends and unsung heroes .
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I knew I would be in the Hip-Hop industry when my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Jackson-Hernandes allowed my crew and I to perform an original song of ours during the lunch period on the last day of school. I feel that experience set me apart from my crew because I had my rhyme and the hook written way before we were given that opportunity. They wrote their verses last minute. Preparation has always been a strength of mine and something that has continued to make me proud in my field, and I’d like for my followers to know that I put lots of thought and creativity in to my content. It’s either an album anniversary, an artist’s birthday, or some sort of milestone celebration.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met Cher at Graffiti Park here in Houston October 2020. She loved my drive and how organized I was and she said “I’d love to be a part of your journey. I can help you.” She put together a birthday weekend for me and I promised her that I won’t stop or slow down from that day forward.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is when people make my work part of their everyday life. There’s nothing like hearing, “I listen to your song everyday”, or, “I look forward to seeing your Instagram/Facebook posts daily.” Just the thought of something I created being embraced by the masses blows my mind.
