We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dameelah Carolina. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dameelah below.
Dameelah , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents did many things right, but in regards to raising me they taught me independence, strength and the importance of succeeding. Despite having some rough times throughout life, I believe I had the perfect parents for me. They taught me to work hard to be the best version of me. My father, being an entrepreneur taught instilled the importance of hard work. My mother working full time with 3 kids and taking care of home taught me strength and the skill of multitasking. Together, they taught me the importance of family bonds. So what did my parents do right? They made me become a strong, independent, successful, hardworking woman that holds family in the highest regard. With these characteristics I was able to find my calling, being a Midwife, while running Carolina Oasis, Inc.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Carolina Oasis, Inc. is dedicated to bringing holistic wellness within everyone’s reach. I started my journey as a Certified Nurse Midwife practicing Western medicine. As I began to learn more about herbal/ancient medicine, I began to offer those options as treatment for different health issues. The appreciation from patients motivated me to do more with my knowledge and my goal became helping people live healthier, more balanced lives by integrating natural, holistic methods into their daily routines.
I became fascinated by the power of nature’s healing. My appreciation for natural medicine and holistic wellness began with my own personal health issue, Lupus. I refused medicine and have managed it with a changed diet, exercise, supplements and practices such as meditation. Inspired by the healing properties of herbs and teas, and the holistic treatments that have been used effectively for centuries around the world, the idea of Carolina Oasis, Inc was born.
At Carolina Oasis, we offer a broad range of products and services aimed at promoting overall well-being. We sell a variety of herbs and teas, each selected for their unique therapeutic properties. We also provide holistic treatments designed to support physical health and emotional well-being, helping to treat the person as a whole rather than simply addressing symptoms.
But what truly sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to our customers’ health and our keen focus on education. We don’t just sell products; we strive to enlighten our customers about the benefits of holistic wellness and how to integrate these practices into their lives. Our approach is personal, empathetic, and always focused on individual needs. What I believes makes me different that other holistic wellness entrepreneurs is that my foundation is in medicine and I have the ability to advise with western medicine and holistic medicine should work together.
Above all, I want potential clients to know that Carolina Oasis, Inc is more than just a brand – it’s a community of wellness, a place of learning, and a haven for anyone seeking to enhance their health naturally. Whether you’re new to holistic wellness or a seasoned enthusiast, I am here to support your journey to better health.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Absolutely, without a second’s hesitation! Being a midwife is a role that I would choose over and over again if I were given the chance. The ability to support women and their families during such a transformative time in their lives is an incredibly fulfilling experience. Midwifery isn’t just a profession; it’s a calling. It requires a commitment to continuous learning, a passion for women’s health, and a deep respect for the natural processes of birth. It’s been a privilege to serve women and their families in this capacity, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Being both a midwife and a holistic wellness provider has been a wonderfully fulfilling journey. Each role enhances the other, allowing me to offer a broad, comprehensive level of care that feels both satisfying and meaningful. In my work as a holistic wellness provider, I’ve had the opportunity to expand my approach to care. This role has allowed me to emphasize preventive health and address the well-being of the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. I’ve been able to help individuals manage stress, improve their nutrition, understand the importance of mental health, and use natural therapies to promote healing and well-being.
If I could go back, I wouldn’t change a thing. The combination of these roles has been challenging, educational, and above all, rewarding. I am fortunate to work in professions where I can make a positive impact on people’s lives daily, and that is something I wouldn’t trade for the world.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Absolutely, my journey to becoming a midwife was a combination of triumphs and trials, and it certainly tested my resilience. As I worked to get my Master’s degree in Nursing, I had a program director that did not agree with me having three children, working almost full time and attempting to succeed in her program. She made sure I did not. However, I knew where I was supposed to be in life and decided that she had no power in preventing me from my calling. I started another program and encountered a whole new set of triumphs and trials. I was not able to find clinical placement in California, my place of residence, and found myself traveling to North Carolina every other week to complete my training. It was a very difficult time that I would not change! I met great people and had an amazing training. I knew I could not let any of the obstacles that presented themselves prevent me from becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife, my calling. The resilience I developed during that time has been indispensable, not only in my career as a midwife but also in every other aspect of my life.
