We were lucky to catch up with DaMaris Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi DaMaris, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Yes, I wish I had started a lot sooner because it is so much more that I could be doing. I’m just glad I started now rather than later. I have so much more respect for what I do and what other people like me do.
DaMaris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Da’Maris and I am the founder of Ohio Models United. Ohio Models United is a community of model, photographers, designers, and other creatives that come together to create content and art for local businesses and brands. We offer Modeling Workshops to upcoming models who are interested in getting their feet wet in the industry and give them a feel for what a real modeling gig or model call might consist of.
A lot to models come to us and are very nervous, shy, or just have never modeled before. At the workshops, we give them a chance to be themselves and express who they are awhile networking with 2 local Model Coaches, Designers, and 2 Photographers.
Most Modeling Workshop only offer runway etiquette and teach you how to pose on the runway. With Ohio Models United, you get a full experience! We offer 2 photoshoots which includes headshots and a clothing brand shoot where the designer personally styles you. We have 2 Model Coaches come in to teach you how to model on and off the runway. They also help you with posing for the Photoshoots and are there to answer any questions you may have. We also have 2 Photographers who are capturing them throughout the whole workshop and the models receive digitals from their photoshoots. Lastly, to close out our workshops we have a local food sponsor come in and provide an array of food so our model can have a to-go box before they leave. These Modeling Workshops provide a very safe space and a great work environment to be in for new models.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think as time goes on people are becoming more open to everyone but I would say that we need to support each other and no look at each other as competitors. We all work hard and put in the work. We should all get praise for what we do and accomplish.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I would say the most rewarding part about being a creative is giving people a platform to grow and elevate themselves. I love everything about seeing these models learn something new then later on incorporate what they have learned from our workshop into a Photoshoot or even on the runway.
