We recently connected with Damani Patmon and have shared our conversation below.
Damani , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first realized I wanted to be in the arts when I was 16. I didn’t get to do it at that time because I was in sports, still in school, and I was also working a couple of jobs. I graduated high school at 18 and went straight to the military. I retired from the military in 2023 at 23 years old and felt like it was the first time in my whole life that I finally had control over my life, so I decided to follow my dream of being an actor.

Damani , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What got me into wanting to be an actor was growing up watching people like Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, and of course many more. I grew up wanting to be able to do what they do in their movies. What sets me apart from others is my determination to make a better life for everyone around me. Of course I’m going to take care of me but I also have 2 amazing, beautiful sons that I was blessed with, and growing up we was poor and my mother did the best she could raising me and my siblings and I vowed that I bring my family out of that. My “Why” is bigger than any of my fears and I won’t stop til me and my family is at the top. One thing I’m most proud of is the fact that everything I’ve been through, I still haven’t given up. I continue to keep my faith in God knowing that he’s going to continue to lead me and my family down the right path. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A hard lesson I had to unlearn is to stop blaming my past for the mistakes I make now. I understand that my child hood wasn’t the best, but I also had to realize that at some point I needed to stop pointing fingers, grow up, and take responsibility for my actions. I’m still a work in progress right now but I’m getting better at becoming the Man I want my kids to look up to everyday.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Giving my kids the life I didn’t have, and giving my family a better life moving forward. Growing up I’ve always loved giving more than receiving and when I became a man, all I want to do is provide. Provide for my kids, my family, and myself.
