We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dallas Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dallas below.
Dallas, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
So the name of my company is a Peaceful Pets of Savannah . I decided to name that because about 10 to 12 years ago I was going through a really difficult time in life and I literally wanted to find some thing that was peaceful in terms of a job and so When I decided how much I loved animals and how much they brought me peace then the name peaceful pets just sort of came to mind really because when I spend time with animals that’s when I feel the most at peace. They are the most healing thing that I’ve ever experienced in my life. I love being around then it brings me so much happiness and joy. And I don’t find that with a lot of people. I know that sounds crazy but it’s true. I love taking care of things and loving on them and making them extremely happy.
Dallas, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well I don’t think that pet sitting and dog walking is that original you know obviously it’s been a business for a very long time but I think what sets me apart from most other companies is that number one I do it alone and number two I really spend all of my time with the animals. I take them on adventure trips, to the parks, hiking, swimming and anything else that makes them happy. I take lots of photos I love photography so that’s one of the things to that I I am extremely proud of myself for is the response I get on Photos from clients. I’ve had numerous magazines publish some of my content with my pictures. And just in general it brings my clients joy to see that their animals are being taken care of played with happy throughout the day so I think That’s really important to have that client and owner relationship. So before I started this business I was an actor for many many years out in Los Angeles from the age of like 10 years old and that was a really rough time in my life it was enjoyable but it was not what I wanted to be because I am super tenacious and it’s very driven and want to be successful at whatever I do so I wasn’t in a A place professionally as an actor that I wanted to be at after 10 years so I decided to come back home to my hometown and open up this business I’ve always had a knack for entrepreneurship. When I was younger I would start my own babysitting clubs sell Girl Scout cookies magazines for schools you know I was always top in that field and I always just was really good at coming up with like ideas and needs for the Community. So I love what I do and I wouldn’t change it for anything!
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I think this is a really great question for other people to know I literally had like $400 in my bank account when I started this business. It took me zero money really to start I made business cards I created my domain and a website and I literally went from veterinarian office to veterinarian office to dog stores and just handed out cards and pretty soon they were off it just took off. And then I started to advertise in a publication around a community here in Savannah and that also brought in business. So I just want people To know that anyone can start a business all you need to start a business it’s just To find a “NEED” in your community and then create a business plan around that. And if it’s meant to be it then you will be successful. I always have had that mantra of I will never worry because I know I will always be OK and I’ve had that same mantra with my business and sure enough year after year after year it gets busier and busier and busier and make more and more and more and more money so just a line your Determination and tenacity and you will be successful.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I truly believe in this industry the best source to receive new clients is word of mouth. Referrals also do you think that social media outlets like Instagram and Facebook also health once someone shares a post or tags my business and their posts you know other people are like oh who is this business oh I need a pet sitter I need a dog walker and it just kind of takes off from there. So at the end of the day yes I think referrals are the most rewarding way to create new business because once someone’s happy and everyone needs a dog walker or pet sitter at some time they know of one and they referred me out.
