We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dallas Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dallas, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was in 1st grade I used to draw all the time. Our teacher asked us “What do you want to be when you grow up? And remember, you can be anything, some things you just need to start preparing for earlier than others.” When it was my turn I said I wanted to be an artist, and I was the only person she corrected. She said, “I know I said you can be anything, but some jobs require that you are born with a certain skill”. Right away, I was going to prove to her I was going to be an artist.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a freelance artist, working in traditional art, painting, drawing, etc. I am classified as a US based Pop Artist since I normally work on pop culture items in most my work. As a freelance artist, I work on a lot of different types of work. The best way to reach me is email.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The real drive in what I do is just to do what I enjoy. I have not been lucky enough yet to make a living off my art alone, but luckily that give’s me complete control over what art I put out. Over all I just want to leave a little bit of my work around.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One thing I wish I knew about this world was the importance of networking. Overall I am a very shy person, who is not outgoing, does not like crowds, and is not good at meeting new people. This is probably the number one thing that is holding me down as an artist. Who you know, and who knows you, will control the types of jobs you get, the shows you get into, and the work you will do in this world.
