We recently connected with Dalisia Ballinger and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dalisia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I was tired of not walking in my passion. I wanted to do something that I wanted to be happy to wake up to. After experiencing a lot of ups and downs with life and getting back on my feet, I was in my office and decided the position that I was in no love served me. I packed up my belongings for lunch and never returned. From there, I took an opportunity working at a local newspaper as a Journalist, and the rest is history.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Dalisia Ballinger, and I’m the Chief Marketing Officer for Dollface Public Relations. I serve solopreneurs and small businesses with exceptional al-la-carte marketing services. I seen there was a need as many small businesses and brands couldn’t afford the full scale of marketing, so that’s where Dollface PR comes in providing services that clients actually need at an affordable rate. I’ve had clients to be featured in various publications such as Forbes Magazine, Sheen, and TV press such Fox News stations and much more. With my experience as a Journalist, I provide a much deeper insight and connections with the media side than most Publicists. I’m proud to be an award-winning Journalist that had an opportunity to work red carpets such as the Stellars and the Oscars.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I started my business with zero income and I was a pending felon at that time. I was also a first time mother and homeless. I couldn’t give up! I worked all sorts of jobs until I figured out my passion. I made a promise to my son thatI would do the best that I could for him. So for a year straight I work tirelessly and built a reputation for myself within Memphis media. I also began to retain clients and take on small projects. I’ve since signed over 10+ plus clients. Traveled the world, and became a homeowner for the first time at the age of 33.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m pivoting as we speak. I’ve been blessed enough to build a solid nine year career in PR, but I never went to school for it. Graduating from college has always been a life goal of mine. So I made a decision to put my education first instead of my career. I’m happy to say that I just graduated with my Associates degree Fall 23′ and I’m currently finishing up my bachelor’s in Strategic Media with an expected graduation date of Spring 25′ at the University of Memphis. It’s been the most rewarding and fulfilling days of my life! No regrets!
