We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DaLisa Campbell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
DaLisa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
Throughout esthetician school I would document any models and work I had done. I then started a business page on instagram, and would post my work. I did this to document my progress, and to make people aware of the service I would soon be offering. Not long after completing school and passing state boards for my license, someone had reached out to me on instagram inquiring about my waxing services. She was from California, and was coming to my home state, Missouri, for a photo shoot. I was so excited, and shocked that my first real client was from so far away. She booked with me, and traveled as my very first client.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I became a Licensed Esthetician at one of the most difficult times in the world, during Covid in 2020. It was one of the scariest moments I have lived through, and I didnt know if I would be able to complete the program, but I did. I have always loved all things beauty. After finishing school, I started to really focus on lash extensions, and that has been my specialty ever since. I still provide facials, and waxing, but lashes are my passion. I love to make my clients desired looks come alive for them. I want all potential clients to trust and know that they will get what they want in a nice and comfortable environment.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clients, for me, has been word of mouth, and also facebook. Providing amazing customer services, services, and a relaxing environment to one client can be all you need to get word spread to more clients. The second source is Facebook for me, but really any social media platform that you get the most interaction on. Posting on group pages is the best option, as well as your personal and business page.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Stay consistent with your online posting, and always stay in trend. Keep up with the latest viral trends and find a way to incorporate your work and business with it.
