We recently connected with Daley Krom and have shared our conversation below.
Daley , appreciate you joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
Many of us look back at our childhood and only see the challenges that formed us, or maybe there are one or two positive things our parents did. For me I believe it was a culmination of the challenge and support from childhood that formed me into a business owner. I grew up with entrepreneurial parents. I never saw my parents go to a 9-5 it was always a 6a-whenever the job is done life. Watching my parents hustle in all the businesses they owned and see that life doesn’t have to be 9-5 giving your life away to a corporation. You can build whatever you want in life is a huge gift they both gave me. Looking back, I believe the biggest lesson my dad taught me was that I didn’t need a college education to be successful. He always said if you want to be a doctor, lawyer or teacher go to college, but if you want to be anything else than just go to work. Don’t start your adult life in debt for a piece of paper you will never use.
The biggest lesson my mom taught me was to never stop growing and changing. Growing up I was introduced to personal development at a young age. When I finally started to implement it into my life and business it changed everything. Staying the same and living in our animal mind our whole lives is not why we are here. We are here to learn lessons, to challenge ourselves and those around us. We are here to become better versions of ourselves every day. I am forever grateful that my parents, especially my mom is always learning and growing and to this day inviting all of her children on the personal development journey with her.
Daley , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As the daughter of the co-founders of a nationwide company you would expect that I have always worked in the family business and always had a love for numbers and money…. quite the opposite in fact, I hated math in high school. In 2014 I was faced with a life changing challenge, instead of cowering I accepted the challenge, and in 2015 found myself working for our corporate office. It was a wonderful place to work but I wanted to do more with my career.
I began working part-time helping clients learn about money and before I knew it, I had a brand-new career as a Financial Educator and facilitator. I was now my own boss! With in 17 months, I was an Executive VP.
My journey of self-empowerment has been a journey my entire life, but the last 6 years has been the most life changing and rewarding. I owe all of that to our company’s culture, and desire for education and helping people.
My cause and purpose is to educate All Americans on how money works and empower people to believe in themselves while helping them make sound financial choices. I get the opportunity every day to help people get their money all the way in order. Whether that’s just starting your plans or moving from accumulation to distribution, I help facilitate that with smart, safe accounts. I can share with you things your broker doesn’t want you to know – like how to make your 401(k) pay you a lifetime income, and how to insure your income if you have a health hiccup. Empowering you with new knowledge and resources is my passion. I believe if we are given the right tools and education, we can all make really great financial decisions.
We are all on this journey called life together, let’s spend it loving each other and lifting each other up!!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In June of 2018 I had accomplished the biggest goal I had ever set for myself. I had only been in business for a couple of years, and I was so proud of how far I had come in such a short amount of time. I thought this was my time to shine and keep the upward momentum going. God and the Universe had other plans for me. The following month I was at a friend’s house and had a little hiccup with my blood sugar and ended up passing out. The unfortunate part of this is that when I passed out, I hit my head on the railing of her deck. I hit my head so hard that I passed out for 2 minutes and ended up with a mild TBI (traumatic brain injury). The full impact of this injury would not show up for another 2 months. When I started realizing that I needed help I was already having speech issues and sleeping more than usual. The TBI journey ended up being an 18-month journey of me falling into a deep depression, anger issues, changes in my physical and mental state along with not being able to work the way I was used to. After many types of therapies to bring my brain back online and lots of love and patience from my husband and loved ones I was finally able to see the light at the end of a very dark tunnel. As I was coming out of the fog of my TBI Covid hit.
I could have used Covid as an excuse to not get back on the saddle and try again. To not rebuild my business. I could have let all my hard work go to waste. Instead, I took advantage of online networking and the power of Zoom to relaunch my business.
By 2022 I was back on top and having the best year I’ve ever had in business.
My belief is that is doesn’t matter what happens to you, its matters how you respond to what’s going on around you.
The only thing any of us have power over is our attitude and our actions. If we have a positive attitude and put in the work, we can all accomplish any of the dreams we have.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Our business model is all about education. No pushy sales pitches or flip charts. We truly want our clients to be educated on how money works and how it impacts them. We also want our clients to fully understand money and the accounts they decide to own with us. I have found when you put education and learning about what your clients’ needs and wants are before anything else you can have a very impactful business.
By simply inviting someone to learn more about a very important and intimate part of their lives is a gift I love to give away.
My secret to growing my clientele is being vulnerable, honest and authentic with everyone I meet. People do business with people they know, like and trust. Building these pillars from the beginning is an integral part of my business strategy.
