Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dale Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dale Jones, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
How I started with Floral Design. In highschool I had a office part time position with my In Laws. One request was finding or getting quotes on replacing a window box arrangement from a local florist. I called a couple florist and gathered pricing and part of me was like there is no way it would cost that much to do this small arrangement. So, I asked if I could take a stab at it. I did and it was pretty and I wanted to do more arrangements. Later that school year I had a FFA community project that required doing something for the community and then creating or doing that “something”. I chose floral arrangements to be delivered to the local senior living facilities. So, my mom and I went to ingles and walmart got all of our flowers and I started to play. I absolutely LOVED it. I loved it even more when we delivered the arrangements and the reaction of the faces of the recepients. It was an unreal feeling that how can something so small in this world make someone feel so special and thought of. It was then that I knew I had to do something along these lines. I had no idea this would be a career at the time but then I started doing craft festivals and later did floral design night classes at my local technical college.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started in the Floral industry when I was 22. I went to college at ABAC for Landscape Design and Greenhouse Management. I opened my own shop in Downtown Clarkesville, GA shortly after college graduation in my hometown. We started small and slowly grew mostly in the wedding industry. Many years of small business trials and tribulations, but I always found a way to stay positive. My husband and I have are high school sweethearts with one child. With owning my own small business, I have learned that you have to be flexible, optimistic, and always “find a way”. Now, we are still going strong 13 years later.
All In Bloom Studio, LLC is a full-service florist. We specialize in weddings and event designs. Our biggest portion of business yearly is the wedding industry, especially. I am the owner and lead designer. I have owned this business since 2010. We are located in the North East Georgia Mountains, where vineyards are common, and mountain views are in our backyard. I believe our little studio stands out because we focus on curating exactly what our Bride wants. She sees the vision, and we help execute how to make those dreams possible. Every Bride isn’t a Pinterest Bride; however, we can surely make every wedding Pinterest-worthy.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A smooth road would never be the word choice I would choose. Small business owners are built from another breed. I believe you truly have to be a little crazy to make this thing work. In one day, I could say that all of the human emotions are felt. Even through the crazy tribulations of business obstacles, there will always be the love of flowers and the flower business for me. I believe starting so young (22), I have grown up in the business where trends come and gone, and if you can stay on top of the trends and social media, then you will always have the upper hand.
In 2019 my family and I paused our Brick and Mortar shop to focus more on family and regrouping. We changed our business set up to a online/over the phone set up out of our home. Finally, after making necessary changes to focus on priorities we have now reopened our Brick and Mortar location in beautiful Downtown Clarkesville as All In Bloom Studio.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe the most effective strategy for growing clientele and customers is being consistent. “Under sell and Over produce”. Create a realistic expectation for what you are selling. You can’t please everyone however, I definitely try.
