We recently connected with Dale Ellliott and have shared our conversation below.
Dale, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I have taken multiple risks in my Life that has benefitted both my family and my Career.
risk 1 : Moving to Los Angeles CA straight from Jamaica by myself with no family members or money. Just a dream. It worked out because I received help from good people and I also learned a lot of things about my industry and how I want to operate moving forward.
risk 2: Started stand up comedy without any practice. Now I am risking it by booking venues and selling out my own tours. This could have been a financial disaster as well as a failure but I decided to do what i love and this is what I’ve always wanted to do.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Dale Elliott and I am an actor/comedian from Jamaica. My love for comedy is what got me into acting. This started with me doing skits on vine back in the day. My continuous viral content got seen by director Storm Saulter who casted me as the lead character in the film called sprinter. Since Sprinter I have been focusing on social media platforms such as Youtube, Instagram, Tiktok and Twitter. Where I have managed to gained a combines 1million followers across all platforms. My industry requires a lot of discipline and consistency in order to grow and stay relevant. Knowing what my brand is and sticking to things I can identify with is super important. Figuring out what niche market is being targeted and execute effectively and timely. The services I provide is comedic, educational and inspirational content across all my platforms. I am most proud of what I am focused on doing right now and that is stand up comedy. and I want my supporters to be confident and hard working in everything they do. I want to my fans to know that Dale creates his own opportunities and they can do too.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by creating content is related but funny. I focused on Caribbean Parenting, which targeted a specific type of people until I expanded into other areas of comedy. building that core audience enabled me to then to be shared among millions of people world wide because the Caribbean Diaspora is big and is virtually everywhere. I used this method of relatable content with other kind of videos and I believe that is one of the best ways of organic growth
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After university in Jamaica I had to choose between whether getting a traditional job or chasing my dream. So I moved to LA and felt home sick. This happened right in the pandemic, so I had had no Job and non way of income and I had to keep my head up and grind on social media all day, figuring out how to grow and being consistent. finding a way to make survive throughout the pandemic and not giving up on my dream
