Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dale Duke. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dale, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned the art of epoxy on youtube and instagram. My background in art has been prevalent and of interest since I was a child. Epoxy is the next up and coming product in the home renovation space in kitchens, bathrooms and garages. The first time I experienced epoxy I was showing a friend of mine a video on Instagram. He insisted that I try it on his countertops in his house as he was preparing it for his Airbnb services. I ended up doing his kitchen, 3 bathrooms, his countertop in his Living room and his dining table. It was the first time I designed with epoxy and as challenging as it was it was pivotal and the starting point in me starting my business.
I very quickly learned the ins and out of epoxy. The do’s and don’ts. Epoxy can be designed into a beautiful creation of colors, designs and layers. Just as art is subject, so is the creation of one’s home. Speeding up the learning process in epoxy comes with each project done. Having the privilege to create in someone’s home is a great responsibility. The learning process of protection, timing, design and clean up is of the utmost importance. Each project is the same as far as process goes but different in experience.
The skills that are most essential is the ability to design and move the epoxy into an art. Many people try but only a few can truly understand the art of creation behind it. I’m part of the few blessed to create. The skill of customer satisfaction plays a huge role as well. To have the ability to take what the client is wanting and being able to create with them, bringing their vision to life is something that requires listening, communication and humility.
The only obstacle that stands in our way sometime is the newness of Epoxy in Charlotte. With epoxy being new and on the rise, the market is growing for it but the demand is still new and volatile.
Dale, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Charlotte Native, Former athlete, I’m 32 years old and I’m getting ready to be proud father of a baby boy! I got into my industry 2 years ago. I learned the art of epoxy on youtube and instagram. My background in art has been prevalent and of interest since I was a child. The first time I experienced epoxy I was showing a friend of mine a video on Instagram. He insisted that I try it on his countertops in his house as he was preparing it for his Airbnb services. The problems that I solve for my clients is providing an affordable, custom solution to home renovation in their kitchen, bathrooms and garage floors. Instead of paying $3,000+ on granite or quartz, I provide an affordable, custom solution that will beautify any home in only 1-3 days.
The thing i’m the most proud of in my business is that it’s family owned. My brother and I created this business together out of respect for each others strengths. He’s more business minded, and i’m more of the creative. Together we make a great team!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal is to create a business legacy to provide for our families and one day pass down to our kids. With our reputation and legacy on the line, we understand that customer service and customer satisfaction is our number 1 priority for a successful business. So reviews and referrals are our number 1 source of business.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My co-founder is my younger brother. His name is Austin, he’s a 30 years old, he too has a young son and family he provides for. Cool fact about him, he’s a former D-1 athlete and Professional football player. He’s played with the Carolina Panthers and XFL New York Guardians.
