We were lucky to catch up with Dale Blankenship recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dale thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
You have to take risks, you have to risk your normal life, relationships, jobs, and even respect, at least that is my experience. It is a risk to believe in yourself. There has to be no backup plan because that is a fail plan and I don’t believe I’m going to fail, I can’t. Everything involved with moving toward what you believe in is a risk.

Dale , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My family played a little music growing up and that’s where I started. It wasn’t till a year or two after school after some circumstances and things that I really started going for it. I just started writing songs and they were really bad for awhile but I found the more honest I got in my songs the better I would feel about singing them so I started recording and kept failing at that too for awhile but I’m in a place now where I feel it’s coming together as we are going to be mastering my debut album coming up. I believe it’s a true as I could be to myself and what I am, I couldn’t be more proud of this record. The truth is that I’m never going to be the best singer, guitar player, or song writer. What I can do is write honestly and with humility, and hope people can resonate with that, that being said I do just love to do to create and pull those thoughts and feelings out of my brain as best as I can!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When the art really does help someone or move them, I really would just love to help people and I’ve seen first hand that what I’m doing really can do that. I never really thought of this as helping people but when someone comes up and tells their story about one my songs and how it made them feel, that is the best part of music. I’m grateful and hopeful that I get to keep doing that.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
If you really are chasing something with the full intention, belief, and of course taking the actions to get there, a lot of people aren’t going to recognize and understand that including your family, and even the people you want to understand it most. But that’s okay because you will get there and you know that. You have to overcome that feeling of needing to be seen by your piers, our time will come!
