We recently connected with Dakotah Tyrene Blinn and have shared our conversation below.
Dakotah Tyrene, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
When I was fired from a job I loved and excelled at, it felt like a devastating blow. I was passionate about my work and had strong opinions on how the business should be run, which unfortunately led to my dismissal. Forced to chart my own course, I opened my own medical spa and found my niche as a successful acne specialist and aesthetician. After three years of thriving independently, I met my soulmate, a personal trainer, and we decided to merge our expertise. Together, we created Blinnergy, a health and wellness facility that combines medical aesthetic services with personal fitness training. Our mission is to teach people how to heal themselves from the inside out.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In the business I own with my husband, Blinnergy, we offer a range of corrective acne and skincare services, including microneedling, corrective facials, lash extensions, and full brow services. The front of the business is a full medical spa, owned and operated by myself Dakotah Tyrene. I have 11 years of experience in the esthetics industry. At the back of the facility is our strength gym, Blinn Fitness. My husband, Brandon, has been a personal trainer for 14 years. We are both incredibly passionate about health, self love, business and community. We provide a variety of fitness services, with a primary focus on one-on-one personal training that teaches clients how to use all of the gym equipment and incorporate functional strength into their daily lives. What sets us apart from other wellness centers is our commitment to inclusivity and support for fellow business owners. We provide a platform for them to grow while boosting a diverse team of aestheticians and functional strength experts dedicated to helping clients develop lifelong health solutions. Our space is incredibly colorful, fun, and we are infamous for having tangible energy that you can truly feel when you step inside. We believe that healing spaces should be comfortable for the clients as well as the people who work there. We also believe in embodying what we promote, striving to be examples of authentic living and creating habits that lead to healthier, happier lives.

How’d you meet your business partner?
Brandon and I met shortly after we had both been fired from separate jobs. I was let go from a medical spa job I loved and was incredibly successful at, being told by the owner that I was too independent to work with a team. I believe now that this was because I was born a CEO, “chief everything officer” Brandon was fired from a commercial gym for training clients for lower price points on the side. When we met, We were both drowning and clientele, and still figuring out where to open our independent businesses. Having such similar life experiences, we were set up by mutual friends and upon meeting Brandon booked a facial treatment with me and the rest is history! After running our individual businesses separately for 3 to 4 years we finally made the decision to combine and reopen as one wellness center, Blinnergy! What I’ve learned from being a full-time entrepreneur is that sometimes things that aren’t meant for you will be ripped away from you, and better things are always right around the corner.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Something that Brandon and I both embody when we are interacting with our clients is just remembering that every single person has something to teach you. Whether it is a positive or negative lesson, We truly believe in building connections with our clients and always leading with love and authenticity. Both of us seeing 8 to 12 clients a day 4 to 5 days a week has taught us a lot about humanity and empathy. Everyone is struggling with something, And most solutions can be found with the power of community and love.
