We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dakota Farnsworth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dakota below.
Dakota, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew for a long time that I wanted to be a creative, but the drive to become something bigger than just professional came from a deep desire in me to build up other people.
For a very long time in my life, I felt like a very small person in a very big world. I had parents who loved me of course, but being the youngest in the family and also the new kid to multiple schools left little room for me to be taken seriously by others. I expressed these feelings in the work I did with photography, where I always looked to find the beauty in things that everyone else overlooked in their lives.
Acting was a large turn for me. I learned how to speak with others, and with that became a warm, inviting, and encouraging person for people. It also taught me the importance of understanding people and where they are coming from, a fundamental skill needed to portray characters properly and intelligently.
Art has not only become a place where I express myself creatively, but a place where I can help those who feel small in the world and give voices to the voiceless. I do this for them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Dakota Farnsworth. I am a voice actor, vocal director, producer, former photographer, professional optimist, and social butterfly. More generally, I am an artist.
I do freelance work in video games, animation, narration, and Audiobooks. Projects I’ve been involved in recently that you may have heard me from include Kai Monteago from Project: Eden’s Garden, The Hunter from Sirenhead: Southpoint, one of the narrators for the SnapChat news station Turnt Up, and Rinq Ba’al from the upcoming game Dispute!
I have a very large passion for bringing the visions of other artists to life. A lot of times for this reason I am quite picky for what I apply for, as I want to make sure that clients I work for have great work ethics, big ideas, and are completely soaked with enthusiasm for what they are trying to create. This assures me that the project will be enjoyable, artistically satisfying, and large numbers of people benefit from the experience. I also take great pride in helping colleagues reach their full potentials and grow into who they want to be.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting VA, I knew that I had a lot of work ahead of me, and I needed to show that I wanted it more than anything. For this reason, I spent the entire first year of learning the craft before actually applying myself to auditions. I took classes, read every book I could find, and listened to every podcast in my sights in order to ensure that I wouldn’t have any pitfalls and I knew the red flags before getting involved in the trade at all.
I did this, and with the knowledge I already had from my theatre acting days, I started my career very strong. I’ve only been working for a year and a half, and I feel like I’ve avoided many obstacles and misinformation by allowing myself to pursue education first. It’s something I recommend to anyone getting involved.
Due to the educational adventure, I was able to be cast in 14 projects and work on them simultaneously for the first 3 months of VA. It’s only been a positive journey ever since.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I had a very strong drive to learn psychology when I was in high school and college. I even met a psychologist who would privately teach me tricks involved in therapeutic psychology. With that knowledge early on, I started to see the pain of those who felt small in the world and those who are lonely and don’t believe in themselves to achieve great things.
I want to get to a point where I can be the kind of person who offers others a hand and stands up for them. Someone that says, “Even if nobody else does, I believe in you.”
By increasing my name as a creative, I look to also increase my reach to those who can be touched and inspired by that message.
