We were lucky to catch up with D’aja Grandberry recently and have shared our conversation below.
D’aja, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind Mommy Blooms is rooted in a deep commitment to holistic reproductive care and a desire to provide support at all stages of womanhood. My time at Spelman College was foundational in shaping my passion for women’s health and social impact. Mommy Blooms was born to fill the gap with products and resources that celebrate and support every stage of reproductive care—from first periods to motherhood and beyond. At the heart of Mommy Blooms is a commitment to helping women embrace their bodies with confidence. My personal connection to the mission is reflected in every aspect of the brand, from its carefully crafted product line to its community-centered approach. Whether it’s a tween discovering her cycle or a mother navigating postpartum changes, Mommy Blooms is there to empower women to “bloom into confidence” no matter where they are on their journey. For myself, Mommy Blooms is not just a business—it’s a calling to embody the values of excellence, service, and upliftment that Spelman College instilled in me, and to pass those values on to a new generation of women blooming into their best selves.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is D’aja, and I’m the founder of Mommy Blooms, a reproductive care brand dedicated to supporting women and girls through all stages of reproductive health. My background is in public health—I hold a Master of Public Health (MPH) and am a proud Spelman College alumna. From the beginning, my passion has been centered on the intersection of health equity and holistic wellness, and this passion is what gave birth to Mommy Blooms.
The idea for Mommy Blooms originally bloomed from wanting to create a unique baby shower gift that put the focus back on the mom’s healing during the postpartum period. I noticed that baby showers often center around the new arrival, but there was a gap in thoughtful support for moms as they recovered and adjusted. I wanted to shift that narrative by developing products that helped mothers prioritize their well-being and embrace their healing journey.
This initial inspiration grew into a broader vision to support women at every stage of reproductive health—from postpartum recovery to menstrual wellness and beyond. At its core, Mommy Blooms is about taking care of the nurturers, the women who often put everyone else first. Our mission is to help them prioritize their health and well-being so they can bloom with confidence and thrive.
We provide a range of items, from tween period kits designed to help young girls feel confident and informed as they enter puberty, to specialized self care products for women navigating different reproductive challenges. Our slogan for the tween period kits, “Bloom into Confidence, Every Cycle,” perfectly captures what we’re about—instilling confidence through education and quality products.
What sets us apart is our holistic approach. We understand that reproductive health isn’t just about managing symptoms; it’s about nurturing every aspect of well-being. We aim to bridge the gap between traditional healthcare and natural, self-affirming wellness solutions. Our mission goes beyond just selling products. We’re creating an environment where women and girls are supported, heard, and seen.
One of my proudest moments is when I hear people have an “aha” moment about placing the focus back on the new parent during baby shower times. It’s so fulfilling to watch the shift in perspective when someone realizes that supporting the mother’s healing journey is just as important as celebrating the new baby. Moments like these reinforce why Mommy Blooms exists and inspire me to keep growing this movement of maternal and reproductive wellness.
If there’s one thing I’d want followers or future clients to know, it’s that Mommy Blooms is more than just a brand—it’s a movement. We’re all about empowerment, confidence, and support through every cycle of life. Whether you’re a tween starting your first period or a woman navigating reproductive health challenges, we’re here to walk with you every step of the way.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most challenging moments in my journey with Mommy Blooms came when I experienced a devastating fire that resulted in losing all of my product inventory. It was a gut-wrenching experience that brought everything I had worked for to a sudden halt. I remember receiving the news and feeling a mix of disbelief and despair; all the late nights and early mornings poured into crafting the perfect products felt like they had vanished in an instant.
In the aftermath, it was easy to spiral into negativity, but I realized I had to dig deep and find the resilience that had fueled my journey so far. I leaned on my support system, reaching out to friends, mentors, and community members. Their encouragement reminded me that this setback didn’t define my vision for Mommy Blooms. Instead, it became a moment to re-evaluate my goals and strategies.
I took this opportunity to reassess what was most important for the brand. I sought feedback from my community on what they loved about our products and what they wanted to see in the future. This input not only reignited my passion but also created a sense of collaboration and connection with those who believed in Mommy Blooms.
Slowly but surely, I began to rebuild. I sourced new materials, worked with manufacturers, and even came up with new ideas inspired by the feedback I had gathered. The fire, while devastating, became a catalyst for innovation and growth.
Ultimately, the experience reinforced my belief in the importance of community and adaptability. I learned that while challenges are an inevitable part of any journey, they also offer valuable lessons and opportunities for growth. Now, as I look back on that experience, I see it not just as a loss but as a turning point that helped shape the resilient foundation of Mommy Blooms.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After our initial launch, I began to receive feedback from customers and community members highlighting their desire for more guidance on navigating reproductive health, especially for young girls entering puberty. Many parents expressed feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about how to have conversations with their daughters regarding periods, body changes, and overall reproductive health. This insight was eye-opening for me; I had focused so much on creating products that I hadn’t fully considered the educational aspect of the journey.
Recognizing this gap was a pivotal moment. Instead of just pushing forward with my original product line, I decided to shift my focus to incorporate educational content into the brand. I started by developing resources such as informative guides, blog posts, and social media content aimed at empowering parents and their children.
This pivot not only allowed Mommy Blooms to meet the needs of our community more effectively, but it also helped us to build a stronger brand identity centered on empowerment and education. I learned the importance of listening to my audience and being adaptable in my approach.
