Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daisy Villa . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Daisy , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I would have to say that the biggest risk that I have ever taken was buying my first investment property. That was actually back in 2020 at the beginning of the covid pandemic. Everything was so uncertain during that time you know, some people were losing their jobs, we were spending most of our days at home because everything was shut down or regulations were really strict, it was truly a really scary time. We actually bought the property cash, and funded the remodel ourselves as well so there was definitely that fear of having a family that you need to provide for and not knowing how the investment that we were making during the height of the pandemic would impact our lives both financially and mentally since we had never done this before, it was definitely a huge risk. However I am so glad that my husband and I decided to take the risk because that risk opened the doors and allowed us to be able to do what we love.

Daisy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Daisy Villa and I begun to invest in real estate at the age of 24. Growing up I was always told that renting was like throwing your money away because you will never own the property that you are living in so I didn’t want to go that route, instead I wanted to buy and sell until I was able to afford the home of my dreams. The way that we started familiarizing ourselves with real estate was when my husband and I built and bought our first home back in 2017 after it gained some equity we sold it and purchased our current home which we also fully remodeled. And like I mentioned before we bought our first flip home in 2020. After our flip home was completely remodeled we decided to rent it out for a few months and we finally decided to sell it last year. We have continuously tried to find another investment property but it has been very challenging to find something, but it’s definitely in our plans for this year, I honestly can’t wait I am so excited because this is truly my passion I love seeing what a home could be and making it a reality.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Being a good boss and managing a team when you’re barely staring is very important. The advice that I have for this is first of set your expectations. Let your team know what timeframe you have, what you expect out of the job that you’ve hired them to do.
The second thing would be to frequently communicate with your team. It’s important to check up on them and ask questions like how is the job going, or are there any setbacks and if there are what can we do to resolve them. You can’t just expect to give someone a task and not communicate, this is very important to make sure that what you’re expecting turns out as you have planned.
Finally and probably the most important is finding a good team. Teamwork is very important because it provides efficient work if everyone has a common or same set goal for the company or job.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Something that I would like to unlearn is self doubt and the fear of failure. I have always doubted myself and my potential and it’s not because I wasn’t capable enough but rather my fear of failure.
Society puts so much pressure on us when it comes to failure, wether it be because of embarrassment or the fear of being judged. But I have come to realize that even failure can be a valuable lesson because it teaches us to learn from our setbacks and mistakes, as well as our decision making and so on. It allows us to have the opportunity for self improvement as well as being our stepping stones towards success. “The one who falls and gets up is stronger than the one who never tried. Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying.” ― Roy T. Bennett
