Daisy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
It happened when I was in my undergrad. I had a professor for an art class in France. He saw some of my artwork, and he really liked them and later showed them to everyone in the class. Since he’s a great artist, I was flattered. Later, when he learned that I was applying to masters programs, he asked me if I wanted a recommendation, and said he would write a good recommendation for me, and that I should also apply to the fine arts major, and if my parents disagreed then he would talk to them for me. I think that was the warmest thing I have ever experienced. Every time I remember it, I feel like my world has brightened up. And I know I will always be brave about myself and my art.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a full-time tattoo artist, and I have my own tattoo studio called Rainfrog tattoo studio. My job is to make people feel good about themselves, which I’m proud of. I make flash designs and also design customized tattoos for my clients. Mostly my works are floral, still-life, animal, and landscape tattoos. My studio is also open for other artists traveling from other places to guest and work in NYC.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Definitely can feel more self-growth doing creative work. It makes me know and love myself more. And I always think it’s great that I can do what I like to do all the time. Also, running my own business, I can arrange my time how I want.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think when it comes to creativity lots of people would feel insecure. They will say something like, ”What if I’m not a creative person? What if one day my mind is just stuck, and I don’t have any interesting ideas?” I always believe in the power of people’s obsessions. By this I mean if you love doing creative things, just do it. Don’t hesitate, and you will see how far you will grow. Don’t let other people’s opinions stop you. It doesn’t mean anything if other people don’t like your work or are not being supportive. The most important thing is you enjoy what you are doing.
