We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daisy Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daisy below.
Hi Daisy , thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Everything I’ve learned has been learned through a series of trial and errors, my process wasn’t easy but has been well rewarding thus far. I’ve been fortunate enough to learn at my own pace, but I definitely would have taken advantage of the many makeup courses to have a more hands-on learning experience. I would have loved to travel and learn from a variety of artists to broaden my technique, and to also better learn the business before beginning my journey. I believe these skills would have made my process faster, but through it all I am grateful for my experience and all of the things I learned along the way.
I took the route of an online course and safety was one of the most essential skills in my class as I was able to learn about proper sanitation, different skin types, skin care, and even the color wheel, which has also helped me become a better artist. These skills would unknowingly prepare me for the Covid-19 pandemic as well, which coincided with my official launch of Dollface By Daisy in February of 2020. No one could predict the impact that the pandemic would have on the world, but throughout it all, with the support of my family, I was able to better myself and my craft!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I am Adaisha Jones, known to the beauty world as Daisy, owner of Dollface by Daisy based out of Valdosta, Ga. I specialize in full coverage makeup applications, and makeup has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. From sneaking and playing with my mother’s makeup as a child to a full-blown mom-prenuer today! This artistry has always been my outlet of self-expression, and once I started posting my work on social media the reaction, I received for my work was inspiring.
My first step into the beauty industry started the day a friend asked me to do her makeup for an event and I DID NOT like it. This triggered me to want to learn as much as I could about applying it on others. So, I did. I cater to diverse skin types and/or conditions, but I have developed an exceptional technique for melanated skin. Sitting in my chair is about more than just getting your makeup done, it’s about the overall therapeutic ambience I create. I’m honored that people choose as their makeup artist, and I take pride in making their appointment one they’ll want to repeat, but in all I love that my clients leave experiencing a better version of themselves mentally and physically. To the old wise say when you look good, you feel good! I don’t just create a clientele list; I create meaningful connections that leave an impact on anyone that sits in my chair!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I have serviced bridal parties, taught a makeup class at the local college, and been blessed with opportunities to service clients at numerous gorgeous locations but the most rewarding aspects of my career are the smiles, satisfaction, and especially the tears of some of my client’s once they have seen their reveal. Applying makeup is a science of knowing your client’s skin type, condition, needs, and preferences and I take the time to study each client’s skin to make sure that all of their skin care needs are met while giving them the look that they desire. My reward is seeing the confidence exuding from my client once they leave. It’s a confidence that remains even when the makeup is removed.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to be known as THE melanated makeup artist of South Georgia. For decades deeply melanated people have been on the back burner when it comes to beauty representation, and I want to give all of my melanated people a place that will recognize their needs and give them the care and service they deserve.
