We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daisy Betance a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Daisy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
How I Came Up With the Idea
I got started because of my own health struggles. In my 30s, I was working in a high-stress finance job, and my body was giving me every signal that something was wrong. I couldn’t sleep, my anxiety was high, I was gaining weight without reason, and my skin was breaking out worse than it had in years.
I went through endless rounds of doctors and tests, only to keep hearing, “Everything looks normal.” The only solutions I was offered were pills — antidepressants or sleeping medication. No one ever talked to me about food, stress, or the habits that actually help the body rest and heal. That frustration was what sent me down the rabbit hole.
Around that time, I started following Food Babe — and if you don’t already, I highly recommend her — because she opened my eyes to what was really in our food and how it affects not just our physical health, but also our hormones, our mood, and our sleep. That curiosity about food quickly led me into researching skincare, and I realized something no one was talking about: what we put on our skin is just as important as what we put in our bodies. It all impacts our nervous system, our sleep, and our overall health.
I decided to learn how to make my own skincare & I signed up for a soap and candle-making class. It was supposed to last 90 minutes, but I ended up staying for hours, talking with the teacher. I absolutely fell in love with the process — creating with my hands, using clean ingredients, and feeling the difference in my body after using what I made. I still remember calling my dad afterward, so excited, telling him everything I learned & that my teacher did this for a living and I wanted to find a way to do that too! His answer was simple but life-changing: “Then do it.”
And so I did. What began as experimenting in my own kitchen grew into Little Buddha, a magnesium-infused skincare line that not only cleared my skin but also helped me sleep and feel calmer. As I shared these products, the feedback was immediate: people weren’t just seeing results on their skin — they were sleeping deeper, releasing stress, and finally feeling like themselves again.
Over time, I realized products alone weren’t enough. Women needed a toolbox to help them regulate stress and reclaim rest — the very thing I needed when I was at my lowest. That’s how The Calm Sleep Method was born: a program for women that combines morning and evening anchor routines, foods that nourish the nervous system, somatic practices, energy work, and guidance from guest experts like naturopathic doctors, breathwork practitioners & many more in the wellness field.
At its core, everything I’ve created — Little Buddha and The Calm Sleep Method — exists for one reason: to help women calm their nervous systems, restore their sleep, so that they can finally feel like themselves again.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Daisy, the founder of Little Buddha by Daisy and creator of The Calm Sleep Method. My journey into this work wasn’t a straight line — it grew out of my own health struggles. In my 30s, after more than a decade in a high-stress finance career, I hit complete burnout. I couldn’t sleep, my anxiety was overwhelming, my skin was breaking out worse than it had in years, and my body felt depleted.
Doctor after doctor told me “everything looks normal,” and the only solutions I was offered were sleeping pills or antidepressants. No one was talking about the way stress, food, and lifestyle affect our health. That frustration pushed me down a rabbit hole of research — first into food, then into skincare, and ultimately into how deeply our nervous system influences our sleep, mood, and skin.
I began creating skincare using clean, plant-based ingredients and infusing them with magnesium, a mineral the body burns through during stress. The results were undeniable: my skin calmed down, I started sleeping better, and my anxiety eased. When I shared these creations with others, they experienced the same — not just clearer skin, but deeper sleep and a sense of calm they hadn’t felt in years. That was the beginning of Little Buddha, a magnesium-infused skincare line designed to calm the skin, support the nervous system, and help you sleep naturally.
But as my community grew, I realized something bigger: products were only one piece of the puzzle. Women needed a toolbox of practices they could lean on daily to regulate stress and reclaim rest. That’s why I created The Calm Sleep Method, a program for women that brings together everything I’ve learned and lived. Inside, I guide women through morning and evening anchor routines, foods that nourish the nervous system, and tools like breathwork, somatic movement, yoga therapy, energy practices, and even group frequency-based therapy sessions with a Bio-Charger. I also bring in guest experts — from naturopathic doctors to somatic practitioners — so women walk away with a variety of modalities they can lean on whenever life feels heavy.
What sets us apart is the integration: we don’t look at skin, sleep, or stress as separate issues. Everything we create — whether a magnesium body butter or a full sleep program — is designed to work together, supporting the nervous system from multiple angles. At the heart of it all is a simple belief: when your nervous system feels supported, your body remembers how to rest — and that’s when true healing begins.
What I’m most proud of is that this work started from my own pain point and has grown into something that helps other women finally feel like themselves again. I’ve seen customers go from sleepless nights to waking up rested and energized — many even able to step away from sleeping pills they’d relied on for years. For me, it’s not about quick fixes — it’s about giving women tools that actually work, so they can learn how to support their bodies in ways they’ve never been taught before.
If there’s one thing I want people to know, it’s this: you don’t have to struggle with exhaustion, restless nights, or feeling disconnected from your body. With the right tools — whether it’s a magnesium-infused body butter at bedtime or a nervous-system-supporting routine — you can reclaim your health, restore your sleep, and finally feel like yourself again.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One of the most impactful resources for me has been the book Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It by Kamal Ravikant. It’s not a traditional business or strategy book — but it completely shifted how I approach both entrepreneurship and leadership.
As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to fall into the cycle of constant doing, pushing, and proving — and I lived that way for years in my finance career. What this book reminded me of is that the foundation of everything — my health, my relationships, and even the success of my business — starts with how I treat myself. If I’m running on empty or approaching my work from a place of fear and stress, that energy carries into every decision I make and every interaction I have.
That message is now at the core of both Little Buddha and The Calm Sleep Method. The reason I create magnesium-infused skincare, and why I built a program that gives women tools for nervous system support, is because I know firsthand how powerful it is when you finally start caring for yourself on a deeper level. Loving yourself isn’t just a nice idea — it’s a business strategy, a leadership principle, and a way to create sustainable success without burning out.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first started Little Buddha, I did everything on my own. Part of it was fear — I worried that if I shared too much, someone might steal my ideas or copy what I was building. But that mindset kept me stuck. I was working 7 days a week, spending 3–5 days at markets, pouring every ounce of energy into the business — and I was burning out and feeling completely alone.
The turning point came when I hired a coach. She helped me see that if I wanted to grow, I couldn’t keep doing everything myself. I had to let go of the idea that asking for help made me weak or put my business at risk. Around that same time, I also started connecting with other women entrepreneurs — something I never expected to enjoy. Coming from the corporate world, my experience with women had often been cutthroat, and I assumed any offer of help came with hidden motives. But this community was completely different.
We had bi-weekly calls, shared our struggles openly, and celebrated each other’s wins. Even though I hadn’t met them in person, these women became some of my closest friends and biggest cheerleaders. That’s when I realized the truth: I didn’t have to do this alone.
Unlearning that need to control everything — and replacing it with trust, collaboration, and support — has been one of the most important lessons in both my business and my life.
