Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daisha Truitt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daisha, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my new head spa salon really came from years of listening to my clients. So many of them were dealing with scalp issues, dryness, or breakage and felt like they’d tried everything. As a natural hairstylist, I started noticing a pattern — a lot of women were doing all the right things for their hair, but no one was paying attention to the scalp. That’s really where healthy hair starts.
During a period when I stepped back to focus more on research and education, I started diving deeper into scalp care and head spa treatments. I’d see all these viral videos showing head spas, but they were never on textured or natural hair. That was the lightbulb moment for me — there was a huge gap in the industry. I wanted to create a space that centered scalp health and relaxation, but catered specifically to natural hair.
I knew it would work because I’ve always been big on educating my clients and creating systems that actually solve problems, not just mask them. Combining the wellness side of a spa with the science of healthy hair just made sense — it’s something our community deserves access to.
What gets me most excited is that this isn’t just a “treat yourself” experience — it’s a healing one. Clients leave my chair relaxed, yes, but also more educated and connected to their hair. That’s the part that reminds me why I love what I do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a natural hairstylist and healthy hair specialist who’s passionate about helping people understand their hair and scalp on a deeper level. I started doing hair over a decade ago, and what began as a creative outlet quickly turned into my purpose. Over the years, I realized that most of my clients weren’t just coming to me for styles — they were coming for education, solutions, and a stylist who truly cared about the health of their hair.
That’s what led me into specializing in natural hair care and eventually opening my own salon suite. I built my business on offering healthy hair services that focus on long-term results — things like protective styling, hydration treatments, and now, my new head spa experience. The head spa is a relaxing, scalp-focused service designed to help with issues like dryness, itching, thinning, and tension. It’s the perfect mix of wellness and beauty, and it’s something I’m really proud to bring to the natural hair community.
What sets me apart is that I don’t believe in rushing through appointments or just following trends — I believe in creating systems and experiences that are both educational and transformative. I take the time to teach my clients what’s really going on with their hair and scalp, so they can continue that care outside the salon. I’m also big on helping other stylists improve their business systems, client experiences, and time management, so we can raise the standard of what “quality service” looks like in our industry.
I’m most proud of the fact that my work has always been rooted in purpose. Whether I’m behind the chair or creating educational content, my goal is to help people feel confident, informed, and cared for. I want potential clients and followers to know that my brand isn’t just about hair — it’s about healing, growth, and creating a new experience for natural hair care that feels both luxurious and intentional.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I first started building my audience on social media, I didn’t have a strategy — I just wanted to share what I knew. I began posting simple hair tips, client transformations, and healthy hair advice based on what I was seeing behind the chair. Over time, people connected with that honesty and educational approach. I realized that my audience wasn’t just looking for inspiration — they wanted real information and solutions they could trust.
Once I understood that, I became more intentional about showing up. I started creating content that spoke directly to my ideal clients — people who cared about growing healthy natural hair, learning how to maintain it, and finding a stylist who truly understood their texture. I mixed in educational posts, tutorials, and transparent behind-the-scenes moments that showed the why behind my work. That’s what really helped me grow — not trying to be perfect, but being real and consistent.
For anyone just starting out, my biggest advice is to focus on connection before numbers. Figure out what you want to be known for and speak to that every time you post. Don’t chase trends — create content that aligns with your brand and educates or inspires your audience. Also, stay patient. The people who need what you offer will find you if you stay consistent, authentic, and clear about your message.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots I’ve had to make in my career was stepping back from doing hair full-time to focus on learning, healing, and redefining what I wanted next. For years, I was in go-mode — building my clientele, running my salon suite, and pouring into everyone who sat in my chair. But after a while, I started to feel burnt out and disconnected from the creative side of my work. I knew I needed to pause before I lost my passion completely.
During that time, I focused on researching hair and scalp health, studying new techniques, and really looking at where I wanted to take my business long-term. That period of reflection gave me so much clarity. It’s actually what led me to create my head spa salon — something more aligned with who I am now and how I want to serve people.
It wasn’t an easy decision because, as a stylist, you’re taught that success means staying booked and busy. But stepping back reminded me that slowing down doesn’t mean you’re failing — sometimes it’s the only way to evolve. That pivot helped me come back more grounded, more creative, and more aligned with my purpose.
