Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daisha Peeks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daisha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
This thought came across my mind recently, I would say three months ago when I left my job. I was a nanny for four years, but because we sold our house we moved out of the area where I did most of my babysitting. I was nervous to take on my passions full-time and was worried I would fail or just feel hopeless and lose my motivation. I had an acting career I wanted to be more involved with and a small business I wanted to nurture. I was scared and started to think I couldn’t do both. I began to wonder what it would be like if I took the “easier route” and got a regular 9 to 5. I would be able to pay my bills and become a lot more financially stable but would be leaving my dreams behind.

Daisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, my name is Daisha pronounced Day-Sha. I am turning 25 at the end of July and have been working in the film/entertainment industry for 3+ years. Atlanta is my home and where I’ve done the majority of my work. I got into acting when I was in high school and took theater. Two years after graduating I decided to take a deep dive into the acting world and tried to learn as much as I could. Google became my best friend that first year. I learned about acting classes, agents, auditions, headshots, demo reels, and so much more!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Freedom is the most rewarding part of being an artist! You get to fail, experiment and try again. As an artist, you are encouraged to fail and see what works and what does not. I get to wake up every day and have a new adventure set before me. I am able to do what I love and I find myself re-falling in love with it all the time. Most importantly you get to be yourself. Self-expression is so important to your mental health and as an artist. You don’t have to worry about trying to conform because what makes you different is how you connect with others.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, there is a goal/ mission driving my creative journey. I want to be able to create stories and help others create the stories they want to tell. My future goal is to become a director and work on projects that I find important. As an actor, I have learned so much about the industry from in front of the screen. I even began writing and am in the process of finishing a short film and working on a pilot. I would love to direct both of these projects one day and love all the knowledge I have gained from just being on set and working on my craft. My company, Atlanta Creators Network, is another passion I am excited to get moving again when the time is right.
