Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daisha . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Daisha , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Today I have chosen to take a risk, I want to share photos and the intimate healing journey that is the story of my body. My journey with body positivity and empowering all individuals to own their perfect existence that was crafted so meticulously and beautifully expressed in the concept of what we perceive as the human mind & body.
I am an indigenous intuitive healer and I come from Islan Guahan (Island of Guam), growing up on the island we didn’t wear much of anything at home running around barefoot playing outside. Childhood memories don’t only consist of playing in the jungles and going to the beach, much of my childhood the size of my body and the color of my skin were always a priority and topic of conversation in my environment. The voice of my Guela (Grandmother) saying to my mom that I needed to be on a diet are words that I associate with being an 8 year old little girl, words that would strongly influence my adolescence into much of my adulthood.
An immigrant survivor of Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence and becoming a Mother at the young age of 18 I have overcome many obstacles in my 35 years of existing. Much of my life experience has taught me resilience and to tap into my inner strength. A strength I believe I channel from the inner most depths of my existence and my identity as a Woman, tapping into this strength has afforded me the opportunity to live my life to the absolute fullest.
In 2021 I made the conscious effort to start wearing clothes that I felt represented the sexy inner strength of an Indigenous Island Woman, I started wearing scarves as shirts and very revealing pants. These are articles of clothing that I felt helped me feel my best, as a plus sized woman standing at 5’3 I didn’t always feel comfortable & confident wearing such revealing clothing along with fear of judgement from my daughter and the people around me.
During this journey I encountered many different experiences and reactions in my daily life as I was very active in my community hosting events and networking with majority of my time, these experiences paired with my intuitive psychic gifts didn’t always impact my mental and emotional health in the best ways. I had to get into the daily practice of looking at my naked body and forcing myself to love and accept every inch of my being paired with all of the trauma and abuse I had survived. This is what prompted me to start taking photos of my naked body, appreciating every intricate marking, every perfectly placed piece of hair and every curve that lead to an experience.
This risk has allowed me to free myself of any self doubt, trauma and questioning the worthiness of my existence as a beautifully created piece of art.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For folks who may not have read about you before, can you please tell our readers about yourself,
My name is Daisha, I am an Indigenous Intuitive Healer from Islan Guahan (Island of Guam). I also am known as The Rooted Ascendant. I serve as the resident Indigenous Healer for Amado Khaya Healing House in NorCal.
how you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft etc,
The Rooted Ascendant was a concept that my Ancestors gifted me while starting my healing journey; I was able to really focus on my healing when I decided to quit my job in SoCal. After realizing how unhealthy I was functioning consumed by capitalism and toxic masculinity as I was thriving as a BIPOC Woman in a very white male dominated industry. I decided to reflect and choose me after realizing my existence was enough, unlearning the ways of capitalism and survival. This is when the priority of decolonization of my mind became the focus of my existence in the U.S.
what type of products/services/creative works you provide,
As The Rooted Ascendant you can find me behind the scenes of many QTBIPOC & BIPOC centered community events. When I am not planning or hosting an event I am spending my time at The Amado Khaya Healing House & Retreat Space, offering my services as an Intuitive Healer, Energy & Body worker, Massage Therapist and Spiritual Guide. I focus on release, decolonization of the mind, alignment & ascension.
what problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others.
With my abilities I am able to guide individuals to reconnect and reawaken to the truth of who they are. I have been able to help clients realize what is no longer serving them and their highest good, this often times realigns individuals to reconnect and reawaken to their true purpose. In addition to alignment I am able to tap into ancestral, karmic and generational trauma along with trauma that has attached itself to the body and move it through the individual to create space for them to release and receive. This is paired with Mind & Body focused detoxing in order to Manifest and call in support from Ancestors.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
I am most proud of my success in life, how I was able to survive being raised by a single mom who struggled with a meth addiction, sexual assault, domestic violence and being an immigrant teen mom. Those are all life experiences that have helped me understand my true inner strength that I carry with me existing as an Indigenous Island Woman.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being chosen as a Healer is not always what people think it is, there is not a real certificate or credential that can define our medicine; majority of healing that is available to the public is culturally appropriated and sold back to the community. I am not always met with the same respect as other healers and I’m often questioned, however, because of my elevated wisdom I am able to respectfully understand through the lens of love that my medicine is not for everyone. I strongly believe as an Indigenous Healer when a person is ready for my medicine we will align when the energy is right, I stopped questioning whether or not my medicine had any value when I accepted the support of my Ancestors and understood that my medicine comes from a time that is not even recorded by humans.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The ability to understand that we are all connected through energy, I am very open and I follow my heart and the messages my body sends to me.
What I mean by this is, always trust your gut. We are taught to believe everything we need has to be obtained from an outside source and to question our own thoughts and feelings. That is the worst thing you can do for yourself and/or your business. Simply think about the last time you went against a feeling and how the reality of the situation turned out.
In addition to following my intuition I focus on networking and uplifting my community through free events. Thus far I’ve been able to host multiple free healing clinics, a free 5 day retreat, a weekly support group centered on Culturally Rooted Healing, free guided meditation and sound healing and many events throughout the NorCal region from Stockton to Berkley.
