We recently connected with Dailyrapupcrew and have shared our conversation below.
Dailyrapupcrew, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
In 2017, we all worked at the same job. So throughout the day, we would have conference calls and talk about different subjects. Could vary from current events, relationships to sports and community. We would be on the phone for hours conversing and laughing. That’s when Eli said “we be having some interesting conversations, I wonder if people would find them entertaining”. So we decided to start a podcast. We started out with audio only but listening back to those recordings, we could tell we had something special. It was three different individuals that brought three different perspectives in their own way. So we decided to start recording with video and guests and that’s when we started getting some traction.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well in podcasting, it’s not hard to get started. All you need to do is rent a studio, record your thoughts and put it on Youtube. The hard part is maintaining and elevating. We started out having to find guests for each episode which was a struggle in the beginning but it’s gotten a bit easier. Editing videos, engaging with followers on each platform. Posting multiple times a day on each platform. Recording shows every week. It really is a job. Everyone wants to start a podcast these days but I think what sets us apart is our determination, the friendship we built prior to starting, being able to separate business from our personal lives, our charisma and the difference in personalities. We’re most proud of the progress we’ve made thus far and how we continue to improve. The messages we get from people in relationships saying how much these conversations has helped them. Messages from the younger generation saying how much they look up to us. Our goal is to make our community stronger by bringing them together again. Help stop the rhetoric that’s impacting our community negatively. Help people understand that everyone has a voice.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
It’s funny because we all work at the same job. Eli and Jeuu knew each other prior to working at the same job, but Eli and I ended up working in the same department and he was my trainer. We got cool through the job and started playing basketball and hanging out together. We ended up in a basketball tournament where I officially met Jeuu and the rest is history.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We started out a podcast that touched on a little of everything, topic wise. We started with sports, then Daily news, other fun topics and then relationships. Then we began to notice that most of the people following us at the time interest was towards our views on relationship topics. Then us being 3 opinionated guys, we didn’t want to have a bias conversation so we started inviting female guests so we could have a more well rounded conversation. We didn’t expect for women to come on the show and say some of things we have witnessed. But I think people enjoy our dynamics of having the well rounded conversation as well as what we all individually contribute to the conversation. I think it also helps that we represent the good part of black men and not what the media portrays. We’re respectful and logical.
