We recently connected with Dail Chambers and have shared our conversation below.
Dail, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I worked on, was forming Yeyo Arts Collective. Asking my friends, colleagues and professional peers to accept a social idea was scary. The most vulnerable aspect of it all is that I knew little to nothing about business. Starting a brick and mortar business, as a collective had a major impact on my life and career.
Yeyo Arts Collective is dedicated to the creative empowerment of women and families. We’ve operated two galleries, worked with hundreds of artists, exhibited the world, created meaningful programs and documented through publications.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a lifetime artist. I began to make art in preschool, like many American children. I come from a family of artists. My mother is also a writer. My family has influenced my creative practice.
I have a deep relationship to nature. My background in clay sculpture has left a deep impression on how I see the world and engage in it. I am excited to be involved in a myriad of land and water initiatives and environmental advocacy.
From the website:
“Dail Chambers’ practice embodies motivational support, intergenerational public education and sustainable living.
Chambers uses an inquiry based-public engagement model. Research, oral tradition, and ephemera create environments of “collective mediums of healing.”
“The collective medium of healing,” is the evolution of crafting with nature, while including ancestry, migration and native ecology in one’s work. The range of work imagines a new future. ”
My art is Mixed Media Work with a focus on Ethnographic Research and Landscape.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I am excited about the world of NFT. New platforms are important in the art industry.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
