We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daijone Dillard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Daijone, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I think for me I have always known this path was for me growing up at a very young age I have had this burning passion for music my mom brought me my first karaoke machine when I was 2 years old and from that point forward it’s all I ever knew/did I couldn’t see my life without it.
Daijone, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Daijone I go by De’ I am originally from Tennessee but I reside here in Los Angeles I started singing when I was very young my first performance was on stage when I was 4 years old were I played a star in my schools play I just remembered that even though I was young i knew that I loved the adrenaline it gave me to see the audience and the smiles on people’s faces, I then did choir throughout elementary, middle and highschool. When I was 13 I joined a music academy that taught me all about acting, dance and singing even some things behind the scenes like production, engineering and music theory I was taking my career more serious than ever by this age I started to really mold my craft and put in a lot of hours and dedication to be great. Once I turned 19 I got accepted into my dream college in New York, long story short I ended up having to leave New York due to expenses what can I say I was a 19 year old in a big city when I never traveled so far from home before, I was sad and upset that I wouldn’t be able to attend the college I worked so hard to get into. I had to go back home and re map out a plan to pursue music I ended up getting accepted into another college that was the next runner up in LA fast-forward I ended up graduating and the rest was history.
What sets me apart from others is my image and style I also bring something different to the table musically I feel my music is complex with a lot of different combinations of sounds I put very much time and thought into my creation’s, I am most proud of my recent EP that I have put out on March 31st 2023 called “Trial & Error I had been working on this EP for about 2 years and to bring it to fruition is definitely an achievement on my part. I am so happy to continue to pursue my dreams and reach bigger audiences I am so grateful for all the fans I have so far and ready to share even more of my journey with the world.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Well for me a few things I can say that are very rewarding is that a creative person learns how to create something out of nothing and overtime realizes what they are capable of doing, us as artist become more self aware about life and what it means to live, being able to express yourself through different forms and achieving long and short – term goals are very rewarding and I would do it over and over again a thousand times.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience can be hard but for me it came naturally.I am very down to earth, fun and outgoing. I started building my audience by posting consistently without thinking about it I would post on multiple platforms and do it at least 1-3 times a week people slowly but surely started to gravitate towards me. I also would perform and do plays and collab with other creatives so with this I would be able to network and meet new people which also helped with growing my audience. For those who are just starting off and looking to grow their audience I would say ask yourself “why do you want to grow your social media ” or ” why are you on social media ” what do you want to convey once u figure this out set time aside to think about content you would like to create and go from there, and also always post consistently I know it can be hard but if you want to build an audience this can definitely help u attract like minded people faster.
