We recently connected with Daijah Morrison and have shared our conversation below.
Daijah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Some people understand and support sex work AND sex workers. Others simply don’t. Just like everything in this world, not everyone is going to agree with what you’re doing. February 15th, 2023 marks two years for me as a pole dancer/adult entertainer. Before entering into the industry, I understood what it meant to take on the lifestyle of being a “stripper”. Over the course of these last few years, I’ve had the privilege to experience a lot of love and gratitude from people that value and support me and my craft. With acknowledging that, there are also many that turn their nose up, usually thinking negative about sex workers/entertainers. Most times assuming there’s no professionalism that goes behind it. Usually, when someone who knows what I do for work is being confrontational, they’ll bring up the fact that I am an adult entertainer or use the “broke stripper” trope. They never know my education history, net worth and they do not recognize the grace and humility I possess. But, those tactics are familiar to us entertainers. Also, it is important for people to understand my profession does not determine my value. One day, a random young man took interest in me outside of a grocery store. The conversation was going well until he realized I worked at a gentlemen’s club. He openly expressed his disgust and told me I was stupid for my decision to dance. Just like that, I was not worth his courtesy nor discretion. I politely explained to him how his ignorance is a plague to mankind and then went about my night making money at the club. Although he remains a stranger, his response to me is unfortunately familiar… that was not my first rodeo and won’t be the last! I’ve learned to continuously stand my ground, try to educate and absorb the good energy versus the bad.
Daijah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Daijah Morrison, also known as Daibella or Bella. I was born in Savannah, Ga but grew up in a town on the outskirts called Richmond Hill. With my parents being local church officials, my upbringing was heavily faith based. Now, I’m an entrepreneur, adult entertainer (dancer) and college student. I am actively working at Pinups in Decatur, Ga. I also operate my three small businesses passionately: Private Pynk, Capture Todai Photography and the Benevolent Mask Company. People know me for my wittiness, kind heartedness, professionalism, and “fun girl”/charismatic nature. Because I am blessed, I have the support of my family and colleagues no matter which pathway I am on. This helps me tremendously, mostly because entertainment is my favorite to indulge into. In 2015, I had given working in a strip club a try. It wasn’t long before I recognized the fact that I was not prepared for that lifestyle and decided to go back to working a “normal job”. It wasn’t until February 2021, when my best friend Dominique passed away, that I decided to embody her fearlessness and dance. My girl never cared too much about what others thought about her so that was my cue not to either! My obligations require being a self-starter so discipline is vital. Being a student, entrepreneur and sex worker, remaining balanced and maintaining wellness keeps me in the game. I am proud of myself for not conforming and living my life in my truth. The pride comes from the fact that I can be who I want, enjoy my work/crafts, earn income and encourage other people. While finishing my studies I, “Daibella”, will continue to grow as an individual as well as a brand. This is with the intentions to be a powerhouse in the entertainment/sex industry.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I moved to Atlanta at the beginning of the pandemic (January 2020). Maintaining my means, I was sewing/selling masks as well as working at the “Soup or Salad” place until I realized I was really unhappy, wanting more income and a different lifestyle that fit me better. Eventually, I landed a bartending job at Trapeze, a swinger’s bar. It was my first real glimpse into nightlife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This new scene was more conducive to me living a happier life in my 20s. Not too long after, I decided to finally become a licensed adult entertainer. I’ve held a license at Onyx, Strokers and Gentlemen’s Club Atl. Now, I am at Pinups in Decatur where it’s greater!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative/artist is the exuberant feeling that comes with self-expression. When I’m entertaining, my performance displays a sense of freedom and is filled with joy. The admiration that is received while my sultry dance is done fuels me.
