We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daijah Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daijah below.
Daijah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After I had my daughter, I was trying to think of a way for me to make money and maximize my time with my daughter. I had to think what am I good at, baking. So I started doing videos on YouTube and taking orders. I was excited to be doing something that I was good at and I could still grow and develop my skill in. I thought it was solving my problem of: me not having a job, there was my money and not wanting to put my daughter in daycare so she would stay with me. Other people have the same mentality as me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Daijah. I am a cottage baker; so far I have provided baked goods for small, intimate events. I got involved with selling my baked goods, a couple months after I had my beautiful baby girl. I was not working and I wanted to make a little bit of money and be able to stay at home with my daughter. I believe with my services, I provide an intimate, personal touch to our transaction. I ensure that their questions are answered, my client knows they can contact me with questions and I am fulfilling their order. I recently enrolled in school part-time. I am working on juggling: being a parent, school, and baking. I am blessed to be able to do all three.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
In my opinion, I do not have a following on social media. But, the platform that I get a great deal of views is Pinterest. My Instagram and TikTok do not get that much activity. I am working on providing consistent content to gain a regular following. Sometimes I do not have any orders so I am not producing content the way I would like to. A piece of advice I would give is to record yourself when you are doing anything related to your business. It will allow you to upload something, instead of nothing.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I started selling my baked goods about a year ago, I was selling 8 inch cakes for $25. Occasionally I get orders, but it is not enough for me to pay bills. I am still sticking with it. I have to prove to myself that I can make it happen and trust and believe in God
