We were lucky to catch up with Daijah Cobb-meeks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daijah, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
I would have started sooner. I’ve always been a person who cared about my perception, and I walked in fear of what others would think or say. Growing up I was a YouTube kid. Almost every day after school I would spend hours on YouTube. I Knew all the choreography to the latest songs I could recite the words to all the funny videos. Looking back, I don’t know what I was so afraid of. Now that I’m older I would have loved to see my evolution from when I first started. Watching my husband start living out his dreams gave me the push I needed to start working on mine. It’s been a slow start, but I’m happy with my progress. I recently heard a quote from Andre De Sheilds that has stuck with me. He said his three cardinal rules of sustainability and longevity. Cardinal Rule #1 surround yourself with people whose eyes light up when they see you coming. #2 Slowly is the fastest way to get to where you want to be. And #3 The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next. It doesn’t matter how or where you start but it’s how you finish. Some things can be easier said than done but, all you need is a little faith and your best effort. As you continue your faith will rise and you will start to remember the dreams you either put aside or forgotten those dreams will grow into bigger dreams. As I said it’s been a slow start but, I am so proud of my progress and the feedback has been rewarding. I hope my story can encourage someone to follow their dreams and just start. Set the camera up and press record, save up for that business. Whatever your heart desires you do not have to walk in fear.

Daijah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ever since I could remember I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I love the beauty industry and about 6 years ago, I got my LLC and was selling makeup products locally. I wish I remained consistent, but I didn’t have the drive at the time. I wanted to start doing something that you don’t see often and an easy segway to get a nice following to start earning a business profit. My friends and I love reality TV, and I was going to a business class at my church to learn more about how I can be successful and grow my business. I came up with the idea I wanted to start a podcast. My husband was working on his and I would help him with some editing I even began to appear on his show. That gave me the push I needed to focus on my podcast. I came up with a name and wrote a script and my girlfriends and I made our first video and now the rest is history. The name of our show is called The Precious Gems Podcast. We’ve made accounts on almost every social media platform. On our show, we talk about Current trendy topics and past topics that have occurred on some of our favorite shows. We have different fun segments; we share motivational quotes and recommendations on books to read.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing yourself grow, learning more about your craft, and achieving goals.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When we first came together, we wanted to do a fashion boutique and start our fashion line. We got an LLC to keep our name and had a few meetings but no major progress. The idea of the podcast just clicked for us. We felt it was easier for us to accomplish. And it was something you don’t see a lot.
