Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daija Rivers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Daija thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
The idea of me being a author was never a driven goal or a dream. Becoming the author I am today was all given to me from God. The vision of my first book “God is my friend” came to me after a period of fasting and praying. At that time I were seeking a clearer vision of my calling. I did not know what exactly what it would envision, but I did know that there were more for me to do. During the last days of my fast, I went into prayer and asked God to show me whats next. I grabbed a pencil and paper thinking I was just going to write down some scriptures or possible goals. To my own surprise, I started writing my first christian children book. I had no knowledge about writing, publishing nor marketing books. With Gods help, the resources and knowledge that I needed was provided. Since I published my first book “God is my friend”, I have continued to allow God to speak to me on any new books I’ve written and published. All of my books are written to uplift children’s self view and to encourage their faith.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After publishing my first book I entered the author community and quickly seen how different religion books are treated versus a non religion book. The biggest difference I discovered is that religion books isnt welcomed everywhere. Having African American black characters in my book is also an aspect that isnt received easily everywhere. After the first rejection of my books, I knew I had to stand in this space boldly, persevere and remember the purpose behind my books.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I started off with family and friends on social media. Sharing my books with people who knows me personally first, was the quickest and easiest way to getting my books out there. My first book was shared on Facebook with my family and friends and it got more views and shares than I expected. Shares holds more power than likes and comments when trying to get exposure. I also joined a few author communities on social media. I connect with like minded individuals who have more knowledge in writing and marketing books. Surrounding yourself around people who has more success and experience than you, is a cheat code to success.
