We were lucky to catch up with Daija Odum recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Daija thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
As a women who loves cosmetics and women empowerment, I wanted to create not only a brand but a platform that gave women an outlet to express themselves. I created my brand to help women understand that cosmetics are never a need they only “Enhance the beauty you already possess”. My love for makeup started when I was younger. I started my own YouTube channel and did a lot of makeup tutorials! I then realized I wanted my own brand, and the easiest thing for me to start with was lipgloss! Google and YouTube were my best friends during the startup process for my business. It took time but I finally found the tube, logo, and design I was looking for to create “Enhanced by VU” a luxury cosmetics line.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Daija and I am a 21 year old entrepreneur/influencer. Once I found out college wasn’t for me I then turned to YouTubing. I started doing clothing hauls, makeup videos, and hair tutorials as well! I then wanted to start my own brand/platform. I started my business to help promote promote women empowerment. I started a cosmetics brand because women love beauty products! My cosmetics are all natural and I would like it to remain that way even after expanding. This is more than just a brand it’s a platform for women to express themselves and also learn how to love themselves naturally. I am most proud of myself for not giving up, because it has not been easy.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Staying consistent with content is the most important aspect! You have to push your product out there, and do events. I learned that you definitely can’t be afraid to network and tell people about what you do!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Saving and budgeting was really big at the time! When starting my business I was doing things all wrong when dealing with funds, but I did learn better ways a with time. I recommend finding everything you need for the business, pricing it out, and then save to execute, At the time of starting my business I did spend a lot of money looking for exactly what I wanted and trying different items out but I feel this comes along with the process.
