We were lucky to catch up with Dai Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dai, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned through trial and error which I find to be the best teacher during your journey. I have a hard time asking for help, I love figuring out how to get things done alone. This character trait definitely has slowed down the learning process. I think persistence, consistency, and planning are the most essential skills. So much more easier said than done. The big obstacle that’s constantly in the way is life’s uncertainty. Many plans and dreams fell through just because of the unnatural wave of life happens.
Dai, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Dai! I enjoy creating content on social media. I created my own YouTube channel as a creative outlet and a form of expression. Learning along the way, I’d post about beauty, lifestyle, girl talks, and more. I’d see progress and a story through those posts over time. I love to look back at the things and places I’d never thought I’d see. Through my journey I learned how to edit, film, and navigate to get the “vision”. I’ve always had a love for creating so naturally creative direction came. I’m most proud of putting out what I like and enjoy. I love that others like my art cause that’s what it is to me. I’m not a fan of putting myself in a box so I don’t have a particular niche I do it all. I feel you should you in this life.
After creating content for a few years and learning a few (not all) of the ropes, I started to fall more in love with being behind the camera. Creating a production or set design can be so exciting! I hope with my clients to bring their creative vision to life. My business is called Dai Dream Digitals and I’m here for your content needs. I offer services for businesses helping by with their content planning, strategy, and creation. I also sell products such as sd card readers, tripods, cleaning kits. Items to assist in your content creation journey. I hand selected everything I cary and I’m obsessed. Lastly I provide graphic design services as well that will take your business to the next level. I can’t wait to show my talents more.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My biggest advice I would give is to be yourself which is so cliché! It’s true though, people get caught up trying to look like the person they are inspired by. Then that’s how the cycle of the same kind of content but different fonts comes about. Don’t lose what’s unique about you. I would also say don’t niche. From a business aspect I totally understand but it’s so limiting.
I built my audience by just posting what I want. Of course it’s polished but there’s always something different on my page. I think there’s something for everyone (beauty, cooking, fashion hauls, travel, and more). I’m also honest without telling it all so that I can express myself.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I have two! One being seeing nothing turn into something. You can have 2 hours of random footage but turn it into 30 minutes of cinema. Or you can have the bare minimum and create in a way everything looks polished/editorial. There’s something different many ways to produce and interpret. Then seeing what you created in the end. Number two would be just seeing others like something you created. Even if it’s just 5 people, they enjoy something you made. Those things make it pretty rewarding .
