Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dahiana Bilbao. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dahiana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I was lucky to stumble upon a studio in North Hollywood while celebrating a friends birthday. I was eager to teach after training because I wanted to keep learning more and the owner, Jennifer, so generously offered me my own class.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ll try to keep it brief and real! My study in musical theater led me to yoga which in turn unfolded into an entire lifestyle that consistently inspires my creativity.
After trying various yoga styles since 2011 – due to an injury – I found myself in a Kundalini like yoga class at Runyon Canyon. In 2017 I completed an intensive nine month training and completely immersed myself in the technology to help my mind, body and spirit. I found what worked which inspires why I teach. I learn energy through sounds by playing the gong and bowls.
I am inspired to share these teachings, but also to simply just awaken the elevation that exists in each human being through the practice of any, and all forms of yoga; along with sound! Essentially the goal is all the same – to get you TO you. Raise the Kundalini energy.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson has been to meet people where they are, and not where you expect them to be. The expectation takes us out of the moment. We’ve added pressure that dampens the light by what we demand.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency. I’ve taught in rooms of just one student and in rooms of hundreds – each is precious – and no matter, I show up with a good attitude and ready to do the work.
