Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dagner Segura. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dagner , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I’m really happy as an artist, when I’m performing on stage or teaching a class I feel joy, satisfaction I feel present. I feel all the sacrifices I’ve made are worth it.
I worked a regular job before and I just didn’t feel myself, I felt lost and with no sense of purpose. No matter how much I was earning that couldn’t compensate the void I had.
Now that I’m a full time dancer, I feel fueled and inspired every single day.
Dagner , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in Costa Rica, where I started my dance training. I’ve trained in LA, Hawaii, Mexico City and now NYC where I’m currently living.
I’m interested in dance started when I watched Sea Paul’s videos for the first time and saw his dancers, and I felt the freedom they were conveying thru their movement, and I said “one day I wanna feel that”
What makes me unique is my versatility and charisma. Im studied different styles over the year which makes adapt to different needs from clients.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Over the year I’ve learned to be very resilient.
I’ve worked full time regular jobs to be able to pay my training as a dancer , after work I would go a take classes and sometimes all I wanted to do was go home and rest but I knew how much I wanted to become a dancer, so I would still go and take 3 classes after my regular job.
Also, moving to a new city like New York City where I had no connections, I had to believe in my talent and started putting my self out there and there were moments of doubt and fear , but I kept going and now I’m working as a dancer full time.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It’s hearing people clap after a performance, also hearing my students say that my class made their day.
Seeing my students grow.
Making people feel something with my dance is tremendously rewarding too.
